Electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Nio announced on Monday the opening of a new battery swap station in Germany, marking its 16th station in the country and 44th in Europe.
In mid-June, the company’s Head of Nio Power, Kajsa Sognefur, unveiled that the EV maker will launch its upgradeable battery feature in Norway “this summer”, with plans to extend the service to the other four European markets at a later stage.
The new feature will allow users to upgrade or downgrade their batteries (between the 75kWh and the 100kWh batteries) based on their needs, similar to the flexibility offered in China under Nio’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) program.
Over the last months, the company has been welcoming battery swap partners in China including Changan Automobile, Geely Holding Group, Chery, and its former manufacturing partner Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC).
Additionally, Nio announced in late April that has partnered with Lotus to co-develop charging and battery swap technologies.

“As of today, the Power Swap Station Berlin-Spandau is officially open to users. This means that the PSS in Berlin is the 16th Power Swap Station in Germany that goes into operation today, which is available to our users for quick and uncomplicated battery replacement,” the company wrote on LinkedIn.
Never miss an update

Last month, the company inaugurated in China its first batch of Power Swap Station 4.0, which allows a faster battery replacement for Nio drivers — including the sub-brands — but also for the owners of the brands the company has been partnering with.
In the same statement, Nio highlighted the convenient location, which allows easier accessibility and a faster process for drivers.
“The Power Swap Station is located in Berlin-Spandau on the grounds of Motorworld Manufaktur Berlin. The location is particularly advantageous due to its proximity to the A100 highway, which is known as the Berlin city motorway. This offers a good connection to other important highways such as the A10, the Berlin Ring, which connects the capital with other cities and regions – such as Potsdam, Oranienburg or Frankfurt,” Nio added.
Earlier today, the company announced that delivered 21,209 vehicles in June, surpassing the company’s estimate that had previously forecasted between 17,800 and 19,8000 deliveries.
The result represents a year-over-year growth of 98.10 percent and brings the quarterly deliveries to 57,373 units, a growth of 143.90 percent. As of the time of writing, Nio US-listed stock is trading 4.33 percent higher at $4.33 per share following the news.
