As reported by EV on Patreon, the electric vehicle maker announced on Monday the launching of a new product, NIO Portable Charger unveiling that will be available at the end of July 2022. Portable was designed to meet the needs of multiple scenarios and users can put it in the trunk and carry it with the car, NIO said. The portable charger machine supports all currently released NIO production models.
Portable is dustproof and waterproof and can function normally at a temperature range of -20℃ to 50℃. Through the portable charging and discharging all-in-one machine, NIO users can charge low-battery electric vehicles and replenish energy with bikers.
The portable charging and discharging all-in-one machine currently only supports weekly rental experience through official rental channels. The rental price is 168 yuan ($25) /week, and it supports the payment of NIO App points. It is expected that the first batch of cities will be opened for trial operation at the end of July 2022. It is expected that the national operation will be opened at the end of August 2022, NIO added.
When asking about the usage of other brands, NIO said that “at present, the portable charge and discharge all-in-one machine supports those with national standard DC charging ports”.
“The discharge function depends on whether the vehicle is open to the outside world. It currently supports some third-party brand new energy models”, NIO added.
The portable charging gun needs to be used with the vehicle AC charging port. It does not support NT2 platform models such as ET7, ET5, etc., and does not support external discharge. The portable charge and discharge all-in-one machine is used with a DC charging port, supports all current production models of NIO, and supports external discharge, NIO concluded.
According to local sources, the EV maker NIO will hold a conference to officially launch the new SUV model NIO ES7 on June 15, at 20:00 in Shanghai timezone. The company will start receiving reservations on the evening of the conference and the orders will start to be locked in July with the first deliveries expected as soon as the end of August.
The model will have five range versions of 440 km, 485 km, 450 km, 620 km and 575 km with three different battery packs of 70 kWh, 75 kWh and 100 kW, according to the information released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Earlier this week, Ford CEO Jim Farley said at the Alliance Bernstein 38th Annual Strategic Decisions Conference that China’s EV manufacturer “will become more important” and that they are “incredibly undervalued”.
“I would say new EV companies probably will get simpler. And Chinese [firms] will become more important.” he started to say.
On Wednesday, NIO reported 7,024 vehicles delivered from May 2022 showing an increase year-over-year and also from the previous month, when delivered 5,074 units. On NIO App, William Li answered to customers and enthusiasts saying “Thank you all! We will continue to work hard in June”.
