Industry data shared on Chinese social media Tuesday showed Nio sold 6,300 vehicles across its three brands — Nio, Onvo and Firefly — in the domestic market during the first week of September.
Weekly registrations dropped 23.2% from 8,200 in the final week of August, in line with the typical pattern of slower starts and stronger finishes within a month.
XPeng, Leapmotor and Li Auto recorded comparable sequential declines of 20% to 31%.
Nio set a new record in August with 31,305 deliveries across its three brands, driven by the newly launched three-row L90 SUV, which contributed more than 10,000 units.
The premium Nio brand saw its deliveries decline both sequentially and year over year to 10,525 vehicles.
From the record 31,305 vehicles sold by the Nio Group last month, 16,434 were from the family-focused Onvo while 4,346 were from the entry-level Firefly.
Of those, about 10,264 vehicles were sold in China from August 4 to 31, according to weekly insurance registration data.
The figures from September 1 to 7 contributed to a total of 2,500 vehicles registered by Shanghai-based Group, which also includes the sub-brands Onvo and Firefly.
Figures from Onvo brand were above the main marque’s for the sixth consecutive week, at 2,700 units — representing the biggest share in the Group’s total.
Firefly sold 1,100 vehicles, dropping from the last week of August — when registrations nearly doubled and the sub-brand recorded its highest weekly numbers so far.
The company set its quarterly delivery guidance to be between 87,000 and 91,000 vehicles, after its second quarter earnings report.
Considering it delivered 21,017 units in July and 31,305 in August, Nio expects to again reach a new record in the final month of the quarter, delivering between 34,678 and 38,678 vehicles in September.
Late last month, in an internal meeting, founder and CEO William Li has reiterated Nio’s profitability target — the company aims to be profitable by the fourth quarter.
The company will launch the fourth-generation ES8 on August 20, on its annual ‘Nio Day’ event.
The six-seater, unveiled late last month, debuts shortly after the release of the three-rowed L90 SUV, under the Onvo brand.
The brand held on Monday a media event at its Munich showroom and service center together with ClearMotion, the Nio-Capital backed startup which develops active suspension technology for Nio and Porsche.
On Monday, the Chinese insurance company Cheche Group announced that it is expanding its partnership with Nio to include the three brands’ portfolio.
The agreement includes policy issuance, intelligent risk control, and claims management.
