Lucid Motors has postponed the European launch of its top-performance Air Sapphire sedan to the end of 2025, according to an update on the company’s website.
The luxury sedan was previously expected to arrive in the region in the first quarter of the year.
Unveiled in August 2023, the Air Sapphire was introduced by the Newark-based EV maker as the “world’s first fully electric luxury super-sports sedan.”
The tri-motor vehicle accelerates from 0–60 mph in 1.89 seconds, 0–100 mph in 3.84 seconds, and completes a quarter mile in 8.95 seconds, with a top speed of 205 mph.
In the United States, the Arizona-built vehicle is priced at $249,000 fully equipped, excluding tax, title, registration, and other fees.
In Switzerland, the Sapphire is listed at CHF 260,900 — roughly $313,200 — representing a price difference of over $63,000 compared to the U.S.
By comparison, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S starts at CHF 239,200, though customized models can surpass CHF 290,000 ($348,000).
In Germany, the Lucid Air Sapphire is priced at €250,000, or approximately $280,000.
In an interview, Lucid’s former Managing Director for Europe, Alexander Lutz, said late last year the company intended to launch the Air Sapphire in its European markets during the first quarter of 2025.
Lucid currently operates in Switzerland, Germany, Norway, and the Netherlands, where its European headquarters is located. On its regional websites, the company states that the Sapphire variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.0 seconds, with a top speed of 300 km/h.
According to EU-EVs, which tracks vehicle registrations across Europe, Lucid sold only 16 Air sedans in Switzerland between January 1 and April 30.
In April, the company delivered six vehicles in Germany, one in the Netherlands, none in Norway, and three in the Swiss market.
To increase its visibility in Switzerland, Lucid has become the officially mobility parnter of the 2025 Gonet Geneva Open, an ATP 250 tennis tournament which started over the weekend.
In Switzerland, the entry-level Air Pure starts at CHF 91,000 ($109,200), while the Sapphire is available to pre-order at CHF 260,900 ($313,200). Lucid is also expanding its retail presence in the country, with a new showroom under construction in Zurich expected to open this summer.
