Lucid hires Apple’s veteran as VP of Platform Engineering

The EV startup Lucid Motors announced on Thursday the appointment of Derrick Carty as Vice President of Platform Software Engineering. The company enhanced the decades of global experience in software development and user interface expertise including 23 years with Apple.

Carty will report directly to Michael Bell, Senior VP of Digital, leading Platform Software Engineering encompassing ADAS, Audio, CoreOS/Android Framework, Embedded Software, Controls Platform, AUTOSAR and Systems Architecture.

“I am thrilled to have Derrick Carty join the team at Lucid as Vice President of Platform Software Engineering,” said Michael Bell, Lucid’s Senior Vice President of Digital.

“Derrick’s wealth of experience with systems architecture and his ability to lead teams that create customer friendly, easy-to-use software interfaces is crucial as we continue to roll out new Lucid Air features via our over-the-air software updates,” he added.

During his 23 years at Apple, Carty worked as Firmware Manager for Intel Macs, Director of Mac Systems Controller, Senior Director for CPU SW, and the group providing software for new Macs.

Lucid revelead in the last weeks two new variants for its Lucid Air model including the Stealth Look and the most recent one the Lucid Air Sapphire featuring a tri-motor that goes from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds.

Recently, EV reported that the company recently hired Dave Pachlatko as a Delivery Advisor for the Swiss Market amid the European expansion planned for the upcoming months. Some weeks ago, the company also posted a job vacancy for a Studio Advisor in the Swiss city of Geneva.
