Musk’s First Victim: Fisker’s CEO deletes his account minutes after the deal

Henrik Fisker, the Danish CEO of the EV maker FISKER, deleted his Twitter account shortly after the company confirmed that Elon Musk acquired 100% of the company for $44 Billion. Before deleting his profile, Henrik tweeted: “Please follow me on IG (Instagram) from now on if you want any updates. Thanks.”

Musk-Henrik controversial relationship started when Henrik launched Fisker Karma, the plug-in model costing $103,000… while he was under contract for the design of the Model S. “We were paying someone to do styling for his own car,” Musk alleged at the time.

In the early 2000s, Henrik worked for Aston Martin before entering as early design consultant to Elon Musk’s Tesla. In 2007, he founded Fisker Automotive, which made one of the world’s first plug-in cars, Fisker Karma. Tesla unsuccessfully sued Henrik Fisker for developing the Karma while he was under contract designing the Model S.

At the time, Musk said “The fundamental problem with Henrik Fisker — he is a designer or stylist…he thinks the reason we don’t have electric cars is for lack of styling. This is not the reason. It’s fundamentally a technology problem. At the same time, you need to make it look good and feel good, because otherwise you’re going to have an impaired product. But just making something look like an electric car does not make it an electric car.”

“It’s a mediocre product at a high price,” Musk said in an interview with Automobile Magazine. “The car looks very big, and yet it has no trunk space and is very cramped inside, particularly in the rear seats.”

Recently, Fisker announced that has exceeded 40,000 initial reservations for the Fisker Ocean SUV. The company will open pre-order reservations for the limited-edition Fisker Ocean One on July 1, 2022, due to anticipated demand. Fisker does not expect to raise prices because of inflationary or commodity-cost pressures through 2023.

The company has indications that many reservation holders intend to purchase the Fisker Ocean One launch edition or Fisker Ocean Extreme models, both priced at $68,999 (depending on the incentives) in the US. As a result, Fisker will open pre-order reservations for purchase of the limited edition Fisker Ocean One SUV to current reservation holders on July 1, 2022.
