BYD Debuts BYD Song Plus Plug-In Hybrid SUV in Brazil

BYD officially debuted on Wednesday its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models Song Plus and Song Plus Premium in Brazil.

The Song Plus is the brand’s most expensive SUV in its hybrid lineup. The entry level trim is priced from R$249,990 ($45,000), while the Song Plus Premium starts at R$299,800 ($53,900).

“The BYD Song Plus Premium offers 135km EV range with rapid charging,” the company wrote on X. “Both models pair advanced technology with eco-conscious performance.”

The model is available in China as both a hybrid and a fully electric model. As of Wednesday, it remains unknown whether the model will be offered in a fully electric version in the South American market.

The Song Plus vehicles join three other PHEVs in the portfolio. The Shenzhen-based company currently offers a hybrid off-road model, the BYD Shark, which is priced from R$379,800,00 ($68,300).

The King sedan begins at R$179,900 ($32,400), while the Song Pro SUV starts at R$194,800 ($35,000).

The company also features battery electric vehicles (BEV) in its Brazilian portfolio, which includes its best-selling model, the Dolphin — prices begin at R$159,800, which is about $28,700.

The Dolphin Mini, equivalent to the Dolphin Surf in Europe, begins at R$122,800 ($22,100), while the Dolphin Plus’s prices start at R$184,800 ($33,200).

BYD offers two electric sedans in Brazil: the Seal, which starts at R$299,800 ($53,900), and the luxury Han sedan, priced from R$559,800 ($100,700) — the most expensive model in the lineup.

It is followed by the Tang SUV, which is priced from R$536,800, equivalent to $96,500.

In the SUV segment, the brand features the Yuan Pro (known as the Atto 2 in Europe), its cheapest SUV, and the Yuan Plus (Atto 3). Prices begin at R$182,800 ($32,900) and R$235,800 ($42,400), respectively.

Brazil Plant

BYD entered Brazil in 2015, with a commercial vehicle factory in the state of São Paulo. It is now building a EV factory in Brazil, in the state of Bahia.

The plant is set to produce about 150,000 vehicles yearly and will serve Latin American markets. According to Vice-President Stella Li, production is set to begin this month.

Construction was temporarily halted last year due to an investigation by the Brazilian Public Labour Prosecutor’s Office (MPT).

The investigation resulted in BYD being prosecuted by the MPT late last month over “slavery-like” working conditions for over 200 Chinese workers in the construction site.

Bahia state labor secretary Augusto Vasconcelos said that BYD‘s plant will be “fully functional” by December 2026.

Brazil Auto Show

The company will be present at Brazil’s Auto Show, the Festival Interlagos, which is being held from June 12 to 15.

It will showcase its luxury sub-brand Yangwang‘s models — the hybrid U8 SUV and the fully electric U9 coupe, which was designed by Lamborghini-veteran Wolfgang Egger.

BYD delivered 382,476 units in May, with 23.3% of the total vehicles being delivered overseas — a new record for the sixth consecutive month.

China Sales

BYD registered 54,900 vehicles in its domestic market between June 2 and 8, according to data released on Chinese social media this Tuesday.

The figures showed as slight decline of 8.2% compared to registrations in the last week of May.

In the last week of May, BYD sparked a price war in China as it cut prices across 22 of its models. The cheapest model in its lineup starts at 55,800 yuan, equivalent to $7,800.

However, the recent discounts have not yet translated into increased weekly sales. The brand reached its highest figures year to date in the first week of May.

Its sub-brand Denza registered 2,300 vehicles last week, 28.1% down from the 3,200 it had sold a week before.

On the other hand, luxury Fang Cheng Bao‘s sales were up 25% week over week — the brand listed 4,500 vehicles in the first week of June.
