Chinese carmaker XPeng has released a teaser for a refreshed version of its P7 coupe, as the company continues to expand and upgrade its model lineup.
In March, the company launched updated versions of its G6 and G9 SUVs, followed in April by the 2025 edition of its X9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). XPeng is targeting 380,000 vehicle sales this year, doubling from 2024.
The teaser of the new P7 was shared on Tuesday by Rafik Ferrag, the brand’s head of creative design, and reveals a sportier design for the updated P7, featuring a silhouette and lighting signature similar to the P7+ variant introduced late last year.
Here’s the video shared by XPeng’s executive.
The P7 was first launched in 2019 and became XPeng’s inaugural performance sedan, equipped with the brand’s X-Bot front design. It featured a 0–60 mph time of 4.5 seconds and a WLTP range of 576 km. Deliveries in China began in May 2020.
XPeng has since expanded its sedan portfolio to include the P7i, Mona M03, and P7+.
The Mona M03 has become the company’s top-selling model since its launch last August.
The P7+ was introduced in November with XPeng claiming the model became “the first vehicle to incorporate large AI models into both smart driving and cockpit functions”
At the Shanghai Auto Show last month, XPeng unveiled a new ultra-fast charging variant of the P7+ that features a 5C battery pack capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes.
In parallel, XPeng has filed a trademark application earlier this year for the name “P7 Ultra,” hinting that it is developing a high-performance variant as done by Xiaomi with the SU7 Ultra.
Ferrag, who joined XPeng in 2017 after stints at Honda and PSA Group (Peugeot-Citroën), has played a key role in shaping the brand’s design identity.
In 2023, XPeng also brought in JuanMa Lopez, a former design executive at Ferrari and Lamborghini, as vice-president of its design center. Lopez previously led global exterior design at BYD, where he oversaw projects including the E-SEED GT concept car.
Here’s the full statement shared by Ferrag.
“How time flies. It was back in 2018, after joining XPENG, I designed my first car for the brand: the XPENG P7.
Witnessing its tremendous success and profound impact, not only for XPENG but also on the global NEV marketed, I was filled with immense pride!
When designing the P7, I meticulously shaped every curve and every detail. Even now, whenever I see it on China’s streets, it’s more than just a car to me, it feels like an extension of myself.
Being part of this project was both a deeply personal challenge and a defining milestone. Now, six years later, I’m honored to introduce the latest XPENG model I’ve had the privilege to design.
This time, we’ve pushed boundaries with innovative, original aesthetics, breaking free from the industry’s conventional and outdated norms to set a new standard in futuristic design.
With this car, you’ll realize the future is closer than you imagine… A stunning, stylish coupe. Stay tuned till its debut!”
XPeng announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with PlugSurfing to give its European customers access to 940,000 EV chargers across the continent.
According to XPeng, Plugsurfing has 500 charge point operators across 27 countries covering “85% of the region’s public charging infrastructure” being among Europe’s largest EV charging service providers.
