XPeng’s Cheapest Ever SUV Spotted Uncamouflaged in China Ahead of Launch

XPeng‘s upcoming SUV under its budget Mona series has been spotted uncamouflaged for the first time on Chinese roads.

Images shared on Chinese social media reveal several design details for the first time, confirming that it will retain the language of the Mona M03 sedan.

The front end carries the model’s signature split headlight design — a “010” layout with starlight LED clusters.

The price of the coupe SUV will undercut company’s entry-level G6 SUV, for which the third generation was released earlier this year.

The model had been spotted testing in China under heavy camouflage over the past few months. It will be the second in the company’s lower-cost segment.

XPeng’s Mona SUV is expected to compete in the mid-size electric SUV segment against models such as the BYD Sealion 7, SAIC‘s MG S6, Geely EX5, and the Stellantis-backed Leapmotor C10.

Pricing is projected to start between 140,000 and 170,000 yuan ($2o,300-$24,700).

In comparison, the Mona M03 sedan begins at 119,800 yuan ($17,400) and the G6 starts at 176,800 yuan — equivalent to $25,700.

XPeng has not yet announced the launch date for the Mona SUV.

Earlier reports had indicated a possible first-quarter debut in China; however, with March drawing to a close, that window appears to have passed without a formal announcement from the automaker.

XPeng plans to launch seven models in 2026.

Four of these will be all-new vehicles spanning full-size to compact segments, while the remaining three will be range-extended variants (EREV) of existing fully electric models.

Two of XPeng‘s upcoming models will join the Mona series, with the first being the coupe SUV spotted earlier this week and the second likely to be a mid-size SUV.

The mid-size model is expected to carry the codename D02, while the compact coupe SUV — the one spotted this week — is believed to be the D03, according to several Chinese auto bloggers.

European Debut

XPeng‘s upcoming Mona SUV will also be available in Europe, as the company prepares for a major portfolio expansion outside China in 2026.

Speaking with Automotive News last week, on the event that celebrated its 1 millionth vehicle produced, the company’s President Brian Gu said that the model will be introduced as part of a bigger push into the region.

The company’s founder and CEO had already revealed last September that the Mona series would be launching across its European markets this year.

The second model under the Mona series will be coming to Europe towards the end of 2026, Gu said, adding that the SUV will be “one of our most important products.”

Mona M03

Launched in August 2024, the Mona M03 sedan quickly became the company’s top-seller in its domestic market, representing about 40% of global monthly sales.

In October, the company announced production of the 200,000th unit of the model.

Last year, the Mona M03 was XPeng‘s best-selling model, accounting for 175,689 of the brand’s total 429,445 deliveries — or roughly 41% of all sales from the Guangzhou-based automaker.

However, demand has cooled sharply in early 2026.

After consistently topping 10,000 monthly units throughout much of last year, M03 sales dropped to 6,722 in January and fell further to 4,375 in February — mirroring a broader sales slowdown across XPeng‘s lineup.

XPeng aims to deliver between 60,000 and 65,000 vehicles in the first quarter, expecting March to account for around 25,733 to 30,733 units.
