XPeng to Launch New Models Under Cheaper ‘Mona’ Series in 2026

Initially planned as a sub-brand, Mona was introduced last year as a lower-cost, tech-focused series by Chinese carmaker XPeng.

He Xiaopeng, founder and CEO of the Guangzhou-based brand, said on Wednesday that the company will expand Mona with “more models from this series.”

Speaking in the earnings conference call that followed XPeng’s first quarter financial results, the chief executive stated, “In 2026, we can expect to see more models from this series.”

“You will be able to see the full potential of this series and it’s going to be very impactful across the industry,” He Xiaopeng added later in the call.

Mona M03, which is priced from 119,800 yuan ($16,620) and rapidly became the brand’s best-selling model after being launched in August 2024.

“Introduced eight months ago, [the model] has surpassed 100,000 deliveries,” according to the executive, who added that it secured “its place as the best-selling A-class pure electric sedan.”

“Mona as a series, it really caters for young people’s taste,” Xiaopeng said, adding that “it needs to look cool and beautiful, provide this emotional value and connection with younger consumers.”

Earlier this week, the Guangzhou-based brand unveiled its Mona M03 Max model, with its official launch scheduled for May 28.

The Max version offers high-level intelligent driving assistance in its entry-level variant and new interior and exterior color options. It will be priced from 155,800 yuan ($21,610).

Regarding its reception, Xiaopeng said that “even for cars between 150,000 to 200,000 yuan [$20,800 to 27,800], currently, there is very, very rare so-called full-performance versions available in the market.”

The Mona M03 Max “will debut Turing AI-assisted driving in the 150,000 yuan price sector for the first time,” he highlighted, which will enable drivers “to experience top-tier intelligent features, once exclusive to luxury vehicles.”

Xiaopeng said he is “very curious about its penetration rate in the market,” expecting it “to be 50%, 70%, we don’t know.”

The executive believes that new model launches — including the Mona Max and the refreshed P7 — “will be catalyst for further growth.”

“We believe that in the third quarter, we’ll see continued growth in our delivery numbers and hitting historical highs again,” he concluded.

XPeng‘s total revenue in the first three months of 2025 more than doubled from a year earlier. Revenue from vehicle sales jumped 159.2% to 14.37 billion — equivalent to $1.98 billion.

It ranked first among Chinese EV start-ups when it comes to exports in the first quarter. The brand delivered 94,008 vehicles globally between January and March, exceeding the company’s guidance of 91,000 to 93,000 units.

The automaker now expects second quarter deliveries to be between 102,000 and 108,000 vehicles. In April, it sold over 35,000 units — 40% of which were Mona M03s.

The brand aims to double deliveries and gross profits in the fourth quarter of 2025. For the next year, it aims to focus on robot production.

XPeng‘s U.S.-listed shares jumped 13% on Wednesday to $22.25. In the past twelve months, the stock nearly tripled.
