XPeng to Launch Gen-3 G6 and G9 SUVs on January 8

XPeng will debut the third generation of its G6 and G9 SUVs on January 8, expanding a product refresh that also includes the global launch of its revamped P7+ sedan.

The Guangzhou-based automaker announced the unveiling on Weibo on Wednesday, revealing a new “Moonlight Knight” Edition for the larger G9 SUV featuring updated design elements and a new “Snow Realm” color option.

XPeng did not disclose additional details about the new SUV variants.

The updated G6 and G9 models are expected to incorporate the company’s in-house developed Turing AI chip, which powers XPeng’s latest vehicles.

The first generation of the G9 SUV launched in 2022, with the G6 following in 2023 to compete with the Tesla Model Y.

Second Generation

The refreshed iterations will debut just nine months after the company unveiled the second-generation G6 and G9 in its domestic market.

The models are priced from 176,800 yuan ($25,300) and 248,800 yuan ($35,600), respectively.

Three months later, XPeng announced that the new models would be coming to Europe, where the brand’s portfolio mostly includes the two SUVs.

Orders opened in several countries in July, and deliveries began in late summer.

In China, according to data from China’s Passenger Car Association (CPCA), XPeng sold over 70,000 G6 vehicles and more than 20,000 G9 units between January and November 2025.

XPeng delivered a total of 39,773 vehicles worldwide in November, with 36,728 of those sold in China.

Among the deliveries, 6,324 were G6s, accounting for 17.2% of the total, while 1,943 were G9s, representing 5.3%.

The G6 was the company’s second-best-selling model, trailing only the more affordable Mona M03 sedan.

The peak for both model deliveries was between April and June, the period following the second-generation launch.

As the company concentrated on other model launches — namely the G7 SUV, the first model to include the AI Turing Chip, launched in July — delivery figures declined slightly.

P7+ and G7 EREV

As exclusively reported by EV late last year, XPeng will globally launch the P7+ on Thursday.

The debut will happen simultaneously across 36 markets, which include Asian, African and European nations.

Alongside the P7+, for which the company will now feature an extended-range version (EREV), the company will launch a hybrid version of the G7.

In November, XPeng debuted its first hybrid model, the X9 MPV, after only producing fully electric vehicles.

Earlier in 2025, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed that the company would feature EREV versions of the X9, the G7 and G6 SUVs and the P7+ sedan.

The new iteration of the G7 SUV comes just five months after the model’s launch.

By then, XPeng was aiming to rival Tesla’s recently refreshed Model Y. The G7 also debuted around the same time as Xiaomi’s highly competitive YU7.

Unlike Xiaomi‘s model, however, demand for the G7 has been underwhelming.

After reaching a sales peak of over 6,000 units in August, monthly deliveries dropped to around 3,000 in September and have remained at that level for the following two months.

As of press time, the delivery breakdown by model, published monthly by CPCA, had not been disclosed.
