XPeng Sweden Sales Drop 23% YoY in January to 40 Units

Chinese automaker XPeng sold a total of 40 electric vehicles last month in Sweden, according to data released by Mobility Sweden on Monday.

XPeng entered the Swedish market exactly four years ago when it also began operations in the Netherlands.

January registrations represent a 23% decline from the 52 vehicles sold in January 2025 and a 60% drop from December’s 100 registrations.

Last year, in Sweden, the company delivered a total of 951 vehicles, increasing 27.5% from the 746 units sold in 2024.

In the Nordic country, the carmaker partnered with the local distributor Bilia. Last October, the two companies opened a new store in Gothenburg.

In early 2023, the first generation P7 sports sedan and the G9 full-size SUV became available in Sweden, alongside in Denmark, Norway, and the Netherlands.

In the Swedish market, the models are currently priced from 599,900 and 719,900 Swedish kronor, respectively – equivalent to $67,300 and $80,700.

The flagship G6 SUV arrived in the country in June 2025, starting from 499,900 Swedish kronor ($56,000).

Most recently, on January 9, XPeng launched the new P7+ model in Europe, with the same starting price as the P7.

Upcoming Models

XPeng debuted the updated P7+ model in Europe at last month’s Brussels Motor Show. Deliveries of the new sports sedan are planned to begin in April across 25 European markets.

The company is set to launch the first batch of its Mona series in Europe this year, as confirmed by its founder and CEO He Xiaopeng, during last year’s IAA Auto Show in Munich.

The X9 seven-seat MPV is also scheduled to enter European markets later this year.

Last Thursday, the automaker confirmed that the fully electric model is set to debut in the UK “mid-year.”

European Expansion

XPeng doubled its global reach to 60 countries and regions last year, achieving its expansion target.

The automaker currently operates over 1,000 stores worldwide, 380 of which are outside China, representing one-third of the total.

Despite the European Commission’s tariffs imposed on imported Chinese EVs, the brand has been expanding its presence in Europe since 2021, when it entered the Norwegian market.

Currently, there are 290 XPeng stores across 28 countries in the Old Continent, with the most recent additions being Austria, SlovakiaHungary, SloveniaLithuaniaLatvia, and Estonia.

As it expands its network and lineup in Europe, the company is also assembling two models with Magna Steyr in its Graz plant, in Austria – a partnership launched last September.

European Sales

Last year, XPeng sold a total of 4,195 vehicles across its European markets.

The strongest result was achieved in Norway, with 1,099 units, growing 358% compared to 2024.

It was followed by Denmark’s 630 deliveries, with France trailing with 583 units.

EV Adoption in Sweden

Data released by Mobility Sweden showed that 16,041 new passenger cars were registered in the country, a 18.3% year over year decrease.

The organization explains that the reason behind this decline is due to the significant growth of ethanol cars in January and the changed tax that came into effect on the first day of February.

New energy vehicles (NEV) – which include battery-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) – represented 64.1% of all registrations last month.

BEVs accounted for 6,710 units, representing 41.8% of the newly-listed passenger cars. Their share rose by 29% compared to January 2025.

Meanwhile, PHEVs achieved a 22.3% market share, but its volume dropped by 20% to 3,582.

Last month, Volvo‘s EX40 compact SUV was the best-selling fully electric model in Sweden, totalling 774 vehicles.

It was followed by Tesla‘s Model Y, with 499 units sold.

Volkswagen‘s ID.7 fastback and its station wagon variant – ID.7 Tourer – ranked third, reaching 374 vehicles.
