XPeng Showcases its Assisted Driving Software to UN Delegates

XPeng announced last Friday that it showcased its AI-driven Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) to global UN delegates during the Informal Working Group on Automated Driving Systems session in China.

Known as ‘XNGP’ (Navigation Guided Pilot), the Chinese automaker’s software was experienced first-hand by officials and experts from major automotive markets.

Besides the European Union, countries such as Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States tested the software in “real-world urban and highway scenarios”, according to the carmaker.

XPeng said that the demonstration showed participants “how large-scale, data-driven AI systems perform in the variability and unpredictability of real traffic environments.”

The demonstration also covered safety features, including driver monitoring, human-machine interaction, and safety protocols.

The Informal Working Group on Automated Driving Systems is a UN working group focused on developing harmonized global rules and regulations for automated driving systems.

The latest session was held last week in Shanghai, China.

XPeng noted that it was the sole Chinese automaker to participate throughout the forum and provide live demonstrations to global UN delegates.

The company has been in the Taskforce on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (TF ADAS) discussions on Driver Control Assistance Systems (DCAS) since 2023, joining IWG ADS meetings for the first time last year.

Updates on VLA 2.0 and Robotaxi

During the session in Shanghai, XPeng also provided updates regarding its second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model.

This system is developed for Level 4 autonomous driving, aimed to deliver quicker reactions, better data processing, “and more human-like driving performance across complex real-world scenarios”, as stated by the automaker.

The company is planning to roll out the VLA 2.0 for its upcoming models from March onward, including its Robotaxi.

At the latest IWG on ADS forum, XPeng disclosed that it is advancing its Robotaxi roadmap in its home market, with production planned for later this year.

Both this model and the VLA 2.0 were unveiled last November, at the company’s 2025 AI Day.

At the time, the company announced that it aimed to launch three Robotaxis (with five to seven seats) this year.

However, XPeng has since said in a statement that it was developing two concepts: “one is a fully-shared model driverless car (Robotaxi), the other is the private-enjoyment model, i.e. human-driven L4-level experience car.”

A local media reported as well that XPeng began transferring internal staff as part of next year’s push towards deploying L4 autonomous vehicles.

XPeng’s ADAS

Back in March 2023, XPeng announced that it would begin the rollout of its XNGP to eligible customers in China.

Three months later, the company launched the City NGP in Beijing, making it “China’s first Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) available in the urban areas of Beijing”, according to the carmaker.

The solution is currently featured in several XPeng models, including the G6 coupé SUV, the G9 flagship SUV, X9 luxury MPV, and the newly-launched P7+.

Additionally, within the MONA series — which the company aims to launch in Europe, the MONA M03 Max, is also equipped with the system.
