According to data released on Monday by the BOVAG, XPeng registered 114 units last month in the Netherlands. It represents a 103.6% increase in sales compared to the same period last year.
The figures also reflected an 8.6% rise from April, marking the brand’s third consecutive month of growth in the Dutch market. May represented XPeng’s strongest monthly performance so far this year.
XPeng recorded 79 units of its G6, while the G9 represented 32 of the vehicles sold. In the Netherlands, the G6 model is available from €42,990 ($48,700), while the G9 starts at €59,990 ($68,000).
Refreshed versions of the two models were launched in China earlier this year. However, it is unclear when XPeng will start shipping the refreshed iterations to overseas markets.
The company is also updating its sedan lineup in China, with the recently unveiled refreshed P7 set to launch in the third quarter.
The older version of the model is still selling in Europe, priced from €49,990, equivalent to $56,700. However, the model represented only 3 sales in the Dutch market.
Last week, XPeng also launched a new trim for the best-seller Mona M03, the Max version, in its home market. The model is not being sold internationally.
Year to date, Guangzhou-based brand sold 465 vehicles in the Dutch market, up 28% from the same period last year.
Dutch EV Adoption
Hybrid models amounted to 14,850 units in a total of about 30,000 vehicles sold in May — representing a 49.2% market share. The market share for battery electric vehicles (BEV) was 34.6%, with 10,440 EVs registered.
Over 25,000 of the total cars sold in April were new energy vehicles (NEV) — which accounted for nearly 84% of the market.
The best-selling brand in the Netherlands was Kia, with over 3,085 units — 751 of them were EV3s and 800 of them were Picantos.
Tesla sold 1,057 vehicles last month, down 36% year over year, but nearly triple of the 382 units sold in April. BYD was the best-selling Chinese NEV brand in the Dutch market last month, with 317 hybrid and fully electric vehicles.
Geely-backed brands Polestar and Zeekr registered 134 and 155 units, respectively. Nio recorded 5 EVs in May, just 3 units more than in April, which was the brand’s weakest sales month in the country.
Europe Expansion
XPeng arrived in Europe in 2021, via Norway, and has since entered Germany, Spain, France, the UK and several other markets. In 2025, it aims to expand its presence to 60 markets — double from 2024.
In May, the company announced expansion to 7 new European countries. After signing agreements to enter Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, the group announced late last month that it will soon be in Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia.
Also last month, XPeng announced its partnership with PlugSurfing to give European customers access to 940,000 EV chargers across the continent.
As of mid-May, the Berlin-based company operated 500 charge point operators across 27 countries covering “85% of the region’s public charging infrastructure.”
The automaker sold 33,525 vehicles globally in May, a surge of 230% year over year, despite the 4.3% decline from the previous month.
Founder and CEO He Xiaopeng said earlier this year that he is “confident” about more than doubling last year’s delivery figures to 380,000 units this year. From January to May, the company sold 162,578 units — reaching 42.8% of the guidance.
