XPeng Partners with PlugSurfing to Access Nearly 1 Million EV Chargers in EU

XPeng announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with PlugSurfing to give its European customers access to 940,000 EV chargers across the continent.

Over the last years, the Berlin-headquartered charging provider has also partnered with Jaguar Land Rover in 2018, Polestar in 2020, Nio in 2022 and the Geely-backed brand Zeekr in late 2023.

According to XPeng, Plugsurfing has 500 charge point operators across 27 countries covering “85% of the region’s public charging infrastructure” being among Europe’s largest EV charging service providers.

The Guangzhou-based automaker said in a statement that its app will integrate PlugSurfing’s Drive API (Application Programming Interface) to include charging station data, with drivers being able to use either the app or the PlugSurfing charging card.

At the beginning of the year, XPeng and Volkswagen signed an agreement to grant mutual access to their ultra-fast electric vehicle charging networks in China.

It meant sharing more than 20,000 charging piles across over 400 cities in the country — and the construction of co-branded charging stations.

Overseas Expansion

Earlier this week, He Xiaopeng announced on Weibo that “XPeng exported 7,615 vehicles” in the first quarter, securing the top spot among emerging EV brands going overseas,” up 370% year over year.

The brand “ranked no. 1 in new energy vehicle sales among emerging brands in 9 countries,” which included Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Ireland, Finland, Portugal and Belgium.

In April, XPeng delivered 35,045 vehicles globally, a 273% jump year over year.

XPeng has expanded to 16 European countries, with Italy being the latest addition. The brand aims to double its presence in overseas markets by 30 locations this year.

According to the brand’s statement, it will “soon also” be in Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
