XPeng on Wednesday unveiled its new G7 SUV at a pre-launch event, positioning the model as a direct rival to Xiaomi’s forthcoming YU7 SUV and the refreshed Tesla Model Y.
The Guangzhou-based automaker began accepting reservations at a presale price of 235,800 yuan ($32,800).
Within 46 minutes of opening pre-orders, XPeng said on its official Weibo account that it had received more than 10,000 orders.
Display vehicles are arriving at XPeng showrooms this week, with the official market launch scheduled for the third quarter.
XPeng describes the G7 as “the world’s first AI car with L3-class computing power.” It is the first model to feature the company’s in-house Turing AI chip and a head-up display system co-developed with the tech giant Huawei.
The SUV is positioned between XPeng‘s entry-level SUV G6 and its family-oriented G9. Both models have been revamped earlier this year.
Buyers can place a 2,000 yuan intention deposit, which can be applied as a 5,000 yuan credit toward the final purchase price. The deposit is stackable with additional launch-day incentives.
The mid-size SUV is offered in two variants—Max and Ultra—both equipped with a 702 km CLTC range, 800V high-voltage architecture, and 5C ultra-fast charging.
The key difference lies in computing power: the G7 Max is equipped with two NVIDIA Orin-X chips, while the G7 Ultra comes with three XPeng Turing AI chips.
Since late last year, the company has unveiled refreshed versions of its P7, G6, G9, and X9 models, while also debuting the P7+ and the new Mona M03 Max trim.
The first images of the model were unveiled by the brand in January. VP Yu Tao described the model as “loaded with AI technology” and “a space monster.”
The automaker aims to double its presence to 60 markets by year end. Just two weeks after announcing expansion to Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, the brand announced earlier this week that it is entering Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia.
XPeng expects second quarter deliveries to be between 102,000 and 108,000 vehicles.
