XPeng Launches New Mona M03 Trim in China with City-Level ADAS for $18,000

Chinese carmaker XPeng launched on Wednesday a new trim for its most affordable and best-selling model, the Mona M03.

Named Mona M03 Max, the new trim is not planned for international release.

As the company aims to double the number of markets to 60 this year, future models under the Mona series are planned to be available also outside China

The Max version features a city-level advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) powered by the brand’s in-house developed AI Turing Smart Driving System.

The Plus variant of the Mona M03, which was launched in August 2024 amid the company’s 10th anniversary and is priced from 119,800 yuan — equivalent to $16,600.

The model has rapidly become the brand’s best-selling model and the quickest to reach the first 100,000 units on the road last March across all Chinese EV startups.

Future models under the Mona series, which are expected for next year according to a recent statement from the founder and CEO He Xiaopeng, are expected to ditch Nvidia chips and solely use the in-house developed ones.

The new lineup includes the 515 km Long Range Plus, 620 km Ultra-Long Range Plus, 502 km Long Range Max, and 600 km Ultra-Long Range Max, priced up to RMB 139,800 ($19,300).

XPeng is offering a limited-time promotion through June 30, 2025, allowing customers who place a 5,000 yuan ($695) deposit to receive multiple incentives.

The promotion allows a 0% down payment option and financing terms of up to five years, with annual rates of 2.79%.

The offers also includes a free 18-speaker audio system valued at 4,000 yuan, and 20,000 points for use in XPeng’s online store.

Design-wise, the side mirrors have been upgraded to a frameless style and now include heating, auto-folding, memory, and reverse tilt functions.

Earlier this month, the company said the launch of the new trim will make “smart assisted driving powered by high computing power and large-scale AI models will be made available for the first time” in the 150,000 yuan ($20,800) segment.

XPeng is planning to begin mass production of its hybrid model in the fourth quarter of the year. The model will be available in both fully electric and hybrid variants and will target global markets.

Super Electric variants to expand market reach domestically and overseas, driving stronger sales growth potential.

Speaking at the earnings conference call that followed XPeng’s first quarter financial results, the chief executive He Xiaopeng stated, “In 2026, we can expect to see more models from this [Mona] series.”

It ranked first among Chinese EV start-ups when it comes to exports in the first quarter. The brand delivered 94,008 vehicles globally between January and March, exceeding the company’s guidance of 91,000 to 93,000 units.

The automaker now expects second quarter deliveries to be between 102,000 and 108,000 vehicles. In April, it sold over 35,000 units — 40% of which were Mona M03s.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year. Following a 1.5-year hiatus, he relaunched EV in April 2024. In late 2024, he also started AV, a blog dedicated to the autonomous vehicle industry.
