XPeng Files for Range-Extended Versions of P7+ Sedan and G6 SUV

Chinese carmaker XPeng has filed for approval to sell new range-extended electric versions of its P7+ sedan and G6 SUV in China, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) latest regulatory catalog published on Thursday.

The company, founded and led by He Xiaopeng, now has four models confirmed to receive range-extended versions — the X9 MPV, the G6 and G7 SUVs, and the P7+ sedan.

Both models, named P7+ EREV and G6 EREV, are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged range-extender engine rated at 110 kW supplied by Harbin Dongan, paired with a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery manufactured by EVE Energy.

The XPeng P7+ EREV measures 5,071 mm long, 1,937 mm wide, and 1,512 mm high, with a 3,000 mm wheelbaseand a curb weight of 2,160 kg.

The model features new rear badges reading “Power X” and “Power Ultra” to distinguish from the pure EV variants.

The G6 EREV, meanwhile, measures 4,771 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a 2,890 mm wheelbase and curb weights ranging from 2,175 to 2,190 kg.

It delivers a top speed of 202 km/h with a 218-kW electric motor and the same 1.5-liter range-extender unit.

The extended-range version of XPeng’s recent G7 SUV was filed last month, becoming the brand’s second hybrid model following the range-extended version of the X9 multi-purpose van (MPV) revealed earlier.

Prior to these, the Guangzhou-based company had produced only fully electric vehicles since its inception 11 years ago.

The fully electric G7 SUV, launched in early July, is priced between 195,800 and 225,800 yuan and delivers up to 702 km of CLTC range.

XPeng first announced plans to enter the range-extended EV (EREV) segment in November 2024, unveiling its Kunpeng Super Electric Platform.

It features an 800-volt silicon-carbide architecture designed to support AI-optimized charging, a 1-dB silent range-extender, and a 5C ultra-fast-charging battery system.

The platform enables pure-electric driving ranges of up to 430 km and combined ranges exceeding 1,400 km, according to the company.
