XPeng Enters Qatar as Chinese NEV Maker Nears 60-Market Goal

XPeng entered the Qatari market Thursday, its 54th globally, as the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker races toward a year-end target of operating in 60 countries.

The Guangzhou-based company introduced two sport utility vehicles — the G6 and G9 — and its P7+ sedan in Qatar through a partnership with the Almana Group’s Pioneer Motors subsidiary, according to Ken Wang, XPeng’s regional manager for the Middle East, North Africa and Caucasia.

The launch was delayed from an initial plan to roll out by the end of 2024, with XPeng substituting the P7+ for the originally planned P7 model.

According to a company statement, the G6, G9, and P7+ models were initially “expected to launch in the Qatari market by the end of 2024.”

The P7+ sedan was showcased during the launch event, as the company prepares for its broader rollout across the Gulf region.

“Qatar is not only a strategic hub in the area but also an important platform for integrating XPeng’s smart technology with its premium mobility ecosystem,” Wang stated.

He also highlighted the company’s efforts in “building an integrated land-air technology mobility footprint” in Qatar, which goes from the models “on the road” to the “cooperation in flying cars.”

At the same event, XPeng and the Almana Group signed an agreement for 600 units of the company’s first flying car — the “Land Aircraft Carrier,” developed by subsidiary Aeroht (recently renamed from Aridge).

XPeng is expanding aggressively across emerging markets as competition intensifies in China’s crowded EV sector.

The company already operates in six Middle Eastern markets including the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt — where it sells the G9 SUV and the P7 sedan.

The brand recently signed distribution agreements in Morocco and Tunisia.

Earlier this month, XPeng announced that it had officially shipped the first Mona series vehicles to the Middle East and North Africa region. The news came a month after founder and CEO He Xiaopeng revealed that the best-selling series in its domestic market would be available overseas.

The Mona M03, XPeng’s cheapest model to date, was launched in China in August 2024 and quickly became its best-selling vehicle. The brand did not reveal in which markets the model will be available.

Last week, XPeng entered the Cambodian market.

The Southeast Asian nation became the first overseas market to include the Mona M03 in its lineup, though the model has not yet been officially launched.
