Exclusive: XPeng Plans Global Launch Event for Revamped P7+ on January 8

Chinese carmaker XPeng will hold a global launch event for the second generation of its P7+ sedan on January 8, two people familiar with the matter told EV on Wednesday.

The new iteration will be available in both battery electric and extended-range electric configurations, the people said.

The first-generation P7+, which XPeng described at the November 2024 launch as the “world’s first AI-defined vehicle,” was only available in the fully electric version.

Pricing for the extended-range and battery electric versions destined for the Chinese market will be announced at the January 8 event, while pricing for the fully electric variant for European markets will be disclosed a day later, the people said.

In September, XPeng announced a partnership with Magna Steyr to assemble EVs at the Austrian contract manufacturer’s facility in Graz, allowing the company to avoid import tariffs imposed by the European Commission.

XPeng delivered more than 85,000 units of the P7+ in its first twelve months on the market.

The company founded and led by He Xiaopeng delivered 5,568 P7+ vehicles in October, with November figures dropping by 8% to 4,870 units.

The sedan has been XPeng‘s fourth best selling model trailing the Mona M03 sedan, the G6 SUV and the P7.

European Expansion

The P7+ was the first XPeng model unveiled in Europe before debuting in its home market. The company presented the sedan at the Paris Auto Show in October 2024 as “a teaser for Europe.”

Data compiled by EV showed XPeng registered 2,001 vehicles across its European markets in November, marking a 77.6% year-over-year increase as the company doubled its presence on the continent.

On Monday, XPeng signed a deal to assemble its G6 and X9 electric vehicles in Malaysia, marking its second international production partnership in recent months.

First-Generation Specifications

The outgoing P7+ was available in three variants: the Long Range Max at 186,800 yuan ($25,600), the Ultra Long Range Max at 198,800 yuan, and the Limited Edition Max at 218,800 yuan.

The model features XPeng‘s 800-volt high-voltage silicon carbide platform, shared with the G9 and G6, achieving energy consumption of 11.6 kWh per 100 kilometers.

The vehicle is powered by XOS 5.4 software and the AI Hawkeye Visual Solution, which incorporates two 8-megapixel cameras, millimeter-wave radars, and ultrasonic radars.

The P7+ measures 5,056 millimeters in length with a 3,000-millimeter wheelbase.

XPeng said the model uses the world’s thinnest battery pack at 109 millimeters, providing rear passengers with 973 millimeters of headroom. Trunk capacity reaches 725 liters.

Interior equipment includes a 15.6-inch central control screen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, and an 8-inch rear entertainment screen.
