Xiaomi’s Upcoming EREV SUVs, New SU7 Variant Spotted in China

Images shared on Weibo this Wednesday showed three upcoming Xiaomi models spotted in China, as the company prepares to launch its first ever extended-range vehicle.

Local media outlet 36Kr reported late last year that the company intended to launch four models in 2026, including a new iteration of the debut SU7 model and an executive version of the model.

The images, shared by several automotive bloggers in China, showed the upcoming fully electric SU7L sedan and the YU8 and YU9 extended-range electric SUVs.

Known automotive blogger ‘德卤爱开车’ wrote on Weibo that the distinction between the YU8 and YU9 models is their “rear-end design”, with the tailgate angle being “different between the larger and mid-large versions.”

The two SUVs will feature five-seat and seven-seat configurations, respectively, according to the 36Kr report.

The latter is scheduled for release in the first half of the year, alongside the new iteration of the SU7 sedan.

The Xiaomi SU7 was the tech company’s debut model as it launched its EV business unit in March 2024.

The company secured over 40,000 orders within the first few days of the sedan’s debut and 6,900 pre-orders of its Ultra variant within ten minutes.

Last year, Xiaomi sold 258,164 units of its SU7 sedan in China, topping the country’s sales in the premium electric sedan segment, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The model outperformed its direct competitor, the Tesla Model 3, which accounted for 200,361 units.

According to Xiaomi‘s European R&D Center Head Rudolf Dittrich, the SU7 has retained the most resale value since its launch when compared to other models in China.

In a new LinkedIn post, Dittrich shared that the sedan has a one-year resale value of 86.1%, above its main competitor Tesla Model 3, which scored 75.3%.

The more affordable XPeng Mona M03 sedan retains a value of 73.1% after twelve months.

With the launch scheduled for April, the next generation of the SU7 opened for pre-sale on January 7, priced from 229,900 yuan — equivalent to $33,100.

The new fully electric sedan has entered its final preparation phase, with display vehicles set to reach dealerships before the Chinese New Year, ahead of its debut.

Last week, Xiaomi announced that the second-generation SU7 Max trim reached a driving distance of 4,264 km (2,650 miles) in a 24-hour endurance test, surpassing XPeng’s updated P7 model’s 2025 record of 3,961 km (2,461 miles).

Conducted in eastern China, the evaluation required the battery-electric sedan to run continuously for 24 hours — including charging — to measure its maximum range.

Xiaomi Sales

Last year, Xiaomi recorded 411,837 EVs in the Chinese market, surpassing the 2025 target of 400,000 vehicles — revised twice over the year from an initial 300,000-unit guidance.

The company delivered “more than 50,000” electric vehicles last December and “over 40,000” vehicles per month since last September.

Earlier this month, Xiaomi matched Tesla‘s seven-year financing for its YU7 SUV, followed by other Chinese automakers, such as Li Auto and XPeng.

The company aims to deliver 550,000 vehicles in 2026, a 34% increase from last year.
