Xiaomi SU7 Max Breaks 24-Hour Driving Record, Surpassing Xpeng P7

Xiaomi announced on Monday that the new-generation SU7 Max variant reached a driving distance of 4,264 kilometers – equivalent to 2,650 miles – in a 24-hour endurance test.

The result establishes a new record for mass-produced vehicles in comparable tests, surpassing the previous one of 3,961 km (2,460 miles) held by XPeng’s updated P7 model last year.

The Beijing-headquartered brand described the accomplishment on its Weibo account as “running a marathon at sprint speed.”

The evaluation – completed in Jiangsu province, in eastern China – required the battery-electric vehicle (BEV) to operate for a full 24 hours, including charging time, to measure the maximum distance it could achieve.

The testing scenario was created to “deliver stronger performance, longer range, and a more reliable driving experience for users,” Xiaomi wrote on Weibo.

The second-generation of the SU7 is scheduled to launch in April and was opened for pre-sale on January 7, starting from 229,900 yuan — equivalent to $32,990.

The fully electric sedan has recently moved into its “final preparation stage”, with display vehicles planned to arrive at stores ahead of the Lunar New Year and its April debut.

Upcoming Gen-2 SU7

The second-iteration of the SU7 model will be offered in three different variants: Standard, Pro, and Max.

The entry-level trim is priced at 229,900 yuan, while the Pro and Max start at
259,900 yuan and 309,900 yuan, respectively — equivalent to $37,290 and $44,470.

Equipped with Xiaomi’s V6s Plus super motor and a 101.7 kWh ternary lithium battery, all the new SU7 versions offer a maximum driving range of 902 km, or 560 miles.

The model features a motor capable of spinning up to 22,000 rpm, alongside a 1.5% improvement in overall CLTC efficiency.

Both the Standard and Pro trims of the new SU7 model feature a 752V silicon carbide high-voltage platform, whereas the Max variant is equipped with an 897V silicon one.

All the new variants now feature LiDAR with 700 TOPS of assisted-driving computing power, and 4D millimeter-wave radar as new additions to the second iteration of the SU7.

Xiaomi is also bringing its end-to-end HAD-assisted driving system to all trims as assisted driving rivalry continues to increase in the Chinese market.

The new-generation model also features a redesigned two-color steering wheel, center console, seat, and ambient light.

“The interior has been redesigned, with a major leap in overall quality, and seat comfort has also improved substantially,” Xiaomi‘s co-founder and CEO Lei Jun stated earlier this month.

Gen-1 SU7

Launched in March 2024, The first-generation of the SU7 was Xiaomi‘s first model, marking its arrival into the EV industry.

The model serves as the most direct competitor to Tesla’s Model 3.

The Chinese tech giant managed to secure over 40,000 orders within the first few days of the model’s debut, as well as 6,900 pre-orders of its Ultra version within ten minutes.

Xiaomi 2025 Sales

Last year, Xiaomi delivered a total of 411,837 vehicles worldwide, surpassing the target of 350,000 vehicles, which was achieved in early December.

Earlier this month, Lei Jun announced during a livestream that the sales target for this year is 550,000 units.

When questioned about next year’s target, Jun denied the conservative approach by the brand.
