Xiaomi announced Monday that the highly anticipated SUV, its second model, will be named YU7. The company said it expects to launch a new SUV, the YU7, in June or July next year.
The battery electric vehicle (BEV), will feature a battery supplied by CATL, according to a filing published Monday by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
On Weibo, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO explained the timing for the reveal, around 6-7 months before the launch, “We hope to remove the heavy camouflage from the YU7 test vehicles as soon as possible. This will help us conduct more comprehensive, detailed, and large-scale testing over an extended period to ensure product quality and deliver a better product.”

The Xiaomi YU7 boasts a top speed of 253 km/h (157 mph) and features a dual-motor system provided by Suzhou Inovance Automotive Powertrain, delivering power outputs of 220 kW and 288 kW.

In November, the tech giant delivered over 20,000 electric vehicles in November, eight months after starting mass-producing its first model, the SU7. Led by Lei Jun, the company aims to reach 130,000 deliveries this year after having increased its annual target first from 100,000 to 120,000 units and then further to 130,000.

In October, Xiaomi officially launched the Ultra version of its SU7 sedan. The 814,900 yuan ($114,000) model was described as “a four-door sports car with genuine racing DNA.”
A prototype of the model set a new record at Germany’s Nürburgring, completing a lap in 6 minutes and 46.874 seconds, beating the previous record held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.
Shortly after the event, the company announced on Weibo that it received 3,680 orders within the first ten minutes of the launch, representing a potential revenue of $419.5 million.
