Xiaomi Pre-Launches YU7 SUV with 520-Mile Range, Targets Porsche and Tesla

Xiaomi held on Thursday the pre-launch event of its second model, the YU7.

The SUV comes in three versions with the top trim accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.23 seconds, according to the tech giant.

Xiaomi plans to launch the YU7 and begin deliveries in China in July. Pricing and pre-order details were not disclosed during the pre-launch event, which was led by co-founder and CEO Lei Jun.

The YU7 will be available in a single-motor standard version, with a range of 835 km (520 miles). The following variants are both dual-motor all-wheel drive — the YU7 Pro has a range of 770 km, while the Max iteration goes up to 760 km.

At the event, the chief executive compared the range with the Porsche Macan electric and with the Mercedes-Benz EQS which feature a range of 702 and 742km, respectively.

The vehicle is 4,999mm long, 1,600mm high and 1,996mm wide, with a wheelbase of 3,000mm.

The model is equipped with Xiaomi‘s HyperVision, a smart driving system that can display Smart Route and navigation, among other information.

With 700 TOPS of autonomous driving (AD) computing power, the SUV features LiDAR and a variable damping suspension system. It supports customizable combinations of five different types of info cards.

The brand revealed the model’s full interior, which features a T-shaped layout and a detachable center console screen. Earlier this month, pictures of its interior were leaked online, showing a different dashboard when compared to the SU7.

According to Lei Jun, the model offers 50,000 to 60,000 yuan ($7,000 to $8,300) more value than the Tesla‘s Model Y. This highlights Xiaomi‘s push to compete directly with Tesla’s updated SUV in China.

The company debuted a year ago with its SU7 sedan, which was able to outperform Tesla’s Model 3 sales within eight months in the market. In February, the Ultra version was launched.

The SU7 is currently priced from 299,900 yuan ($41,600), while the Ultra starts at 529,900 yuan ($73,100).

The debut sedan sold over 100,000th units until the end of 2024. By the end of April, the brand registered its 100,000th vehicle in 2025.

Xiaomi expects deliveries to reach 350,000 units this year. From January to April, the company sold nearly 104,000 EVs, bringing progress to around 30%.
