Xiaomi announced on Thursday that it delivered “over 28,000” EVs in April, marking its first sequential decline since the launch of its debut model in early last year.
Despite the decline, the tech giant still exceeded the 25,000 mark for the second consecutive month. Deliveries of the SU7 sedan began exactly a year ago (April 2, 2024), with the company reaching an output of 7,058 units that month.
The brand delivered its 100,000th vehicle in November 2024, seven and a half months after production kicked off at its Beijing EV plant. Earlier this week, Xiaomi reached the same number — selling its 100,000th vehicle year-to-date — in nearly half that time.
In March, Xiaomi‘s vehicle deliveries had reached “more than 29,000” units, marking the sixth consecutive month with over 20,000 SU7 sedans delivered.
The company’s co-founder and chief executive Lei Jun lifted its annual target by 50,000 units to 350,000. With 75,900 vehicles sold in the first quarter of 2025, the brand achieved approximately 21.7% of its annual target.
Including April’s figures, total sales have reached nearly 104,000, bringing progress to around 30% of the goal.
Bloomberg reported in March that the company is expanding its second EV plant in Beijing, as it ramps up production amid strong demand and the launch of its second model, the YU7 SUV.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, the brand delivered 69,697 vehicles, bringing the annual total to 135,000 units. Xiaomi accumulated more than 248,000 locked-in orders in just nine months since its launch, Lei Jun said in December.
YU7 + Global Expansion
Xiaomi is preparing to launch its first SUV in either “June or July”, as announced earlier this year by the chief executive.
The YU7 will compete directly with Tesla’s refreshed Model Y, which recently became the best-selling electric vehicle in China with 46,000 units sold in March.
The model’s exterior resembles Ferrari’s Purosangue and several interior images have leaked on Chinese social media in the past weeks.
In a recent disclosure by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), it was revealed that Xiaomi has introduced a new long-range variant of the YU7 offering up to 835 km on a single charge. The SUV will be available in both single- and dual-motor configurations.
Weibing Lu, the company’s president, stated on the previous earnings call for the fourth quarter results that the tech giant intends to start shipping cars overseas in 2027.
