Xiaomi Announces 240,000 Locked-in Orders for YU7 SUV in 18 Hours

Xiaomi announced on Friday that, within just 18 hours of going on sale, the YU7 SUV has secured over 240,000 locked-in orders.

The second model in the tech giant’s EV lineup was launched on Thursday, with a starting price of 253,500 yuan ($35,320) for the standard single-motor version.

The price undercuts Tesla’s refreshed Model Y by 10,000 yuan, which it is set to rival. Its Rear-Wheel Drive Version is priced from 263,500 yuan, equivalent to $36,700.

The U.S. brand’s SUV is also available in a Long-Range All-Wheel Drive Version, with prices starting at 313,500 yuan ($43,750).

Xiaomi‘s YU7 has two dual-motor, all-wheel drive variants — the YU7 Pro, priced from 279,900 yuan ($39,000), and the top trim YU7 Max, with prices starting at 329,900 yuan ($46,000).

The YU7 launch broke all previous records in China as Xiaomi secured 200,000 pre-orders in just three minutes.

In two minutes, the brand already had 196,000 pre-orders, from which 122,000 were locked-in. Total pre-orders reached 289,000 units after an hour.

The orders are expected to be delivered within one to five weeks (about one month) for customers depositing a 20,000 yuan deposit for a limited number of “near-ready” units.

The YU7 comes in three trims: a single-motor standard version, with a range of 835 km (520 miles), and two dual-motor all-wheel drive iterations.

The Xiaomi YU7 Pro offers a maximum range of 770 km, while the YU7 Max delivers up to 760 km.

Both the standard YU7 and the Pro models are equipped with a 96.3 kWh battery, whereas the Max version uses a larger 101.7 kWh battery.

For comparison, the Tesla Model Y claims a range of 593 km for its rear-wheel drive version and 719 km for the all-wheel drive trim. Its battery capacity ranges from 62.5 kWh to 78.4 kWh.

Xiaomi‘s second model has a peak power output of 508 kW, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds (the Model Y claims 4.3 to 5.9 seconds depending on the trim), and reaches a top speed of 253 km/h (50 km/h above Tesla‘s).

The model is equipped with Xiaomi‘s HyperVision and Nvidia’s Thor chip, with 700 TOPS of autonomous driving computing power.

It has a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, with a 4D millimeter-wave radar, 11 high-definition cameras, and 12 ultrasonic radars with about 250 km/h (157 mph) top speed.

The YU7 features a panoramic display across its dashboard, a 16.1” center touchscreen and two screens for the rear seats.

In terms of charging, YU7 features 800V rapid charging, going from 10 to 80 percent state of charge in 12 minutes. It can reach up to 620km with 15 minutes of charging.
