A government investigation has revealed on Tuesday that Toyota, Mazda and Yamaha Motor, Honda Motor and Suzuki have falsified data and bypassed impact-safety tests. The ministry has now instructed 85 automakers to investigate whether similar issues exist.

The Japanese transport ministry stated that Toyota submitted incorrect data during pedestrian-safety tests for three current models and used modified test vehicles during collision-safety tests for four past models.

According to the report, the automaker provided faulty data for the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio, and Yaris Cross models in pedestrian-safety tests besides using altered vehicles in collision-safety tests for the Crown model.

The ministry has ordered companies such as Toyota, Mazda, and Yamaha Motor to suspend shipments of some vehicles and motorcycles currently in production and demanded that the companies provide detailed explanations to consumers.

As a next step, the Japanese ministry will now conduct on-site inspections and take strict action based on the findings and relevant regulations.

Toyota Motor has recently announced a collaboration with EVgo to install DC fast chargers in Baldwin Park, and Sacramento, both areas located in California.

The high-power 350kW chargers, to be installed, owned, and operated by EVgo, one of the nation’s largest public fast charging networks, are targeted to be operational in 2025.
