Tesla VP Says Roadster is ‘In Development’ Ahead of Year End Demo

Tesla is developing the next-gen of the long-awaited Roadster model, aiming to make it “the best” and “a little bit more than a car”, the company’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, said at a Tesla and SpaceX over the weekend.

Asked for an update on Roadster, Moravy said the model “is definitely in development,” adding that the team talked about it with Musk “last Sunday night.”

The VP said the Tesla team is “gearing up for super cool demos.” Earlier this month, Elon Musk teased the “most epic demo ever” for the end of the year after the vehicle engineering team presented the latest updates to Tesla’s CEO.

“It’s going to be mind-blowing, I think, as Elon says,” Moravy added.

In mid-July, Musk wrote on X: “Just left the Tesla design studio. Most epic demo ever by end of year. Ever” — without revealing to which product he was referring to.

Moravy said the team has “spent a lot of time last few years rethinking what we did and why we did it and what would make an awesome and exciting, say, last best driver’s car, I guess.”

“And so the Roadster’s got to be the best. And we’ve been making it better and better and better,” he added before saying Musk “got a little excited” after last week’s demos showed by the team.

“And as you know, it’s even a little bit more than a car. And yeah, we showed Elon some cool demos last week of the tech we’ve been working on. And he got a little excited,” Tesla’s VP stated.

In February, Moravy said that Elon pushed the team “to go one step further” as the team realized it “could do better than we thought.”

Moravy joined Tesla in February 2010 as a Senior Design & Development Engineer for chassis design. He was promoted to Vice President of Vehicle Engineering in 2019 after holding five different roles within the department.
