Twenty-four hours after the first uncamouflaged images appeared on social media, Tesla officially revealed its highly anticipated refreshed Model Y.
The updated Model Y will first roll out in China, the world’s largest EV market, with deliveries of the five-seater variant slated to begin in March. Tesla plans to expand deliveries to other markets starting in the second quarter.
Prices for the new Model Y start at 263,500 yuan ($35,900), a 5.4% increase over the previous version, Tesla’s China website showed. The refreshed model offers a 3% improvement in range (719km CLTC in the Long-range variant), powered rear seats, a new front camera embedded in the bumper, and a peak charging rate of 250 kW.
Tesla also introduced a limited “Launch Series” version of the Model Y, featuring a rear lift gate badge, puddle light badge, doorsill plate wordmark, charging console wordmark, and a vegan suede black interior. The All-Wheel Drive variant of the Launch Series is equipped with an Acceleration Boost feature.
The company said the updated suspension system in the new Model Y delivers smoother handling, enhanced comfort, more responsive steering, and a quieter ride.
“From the front bumper to the taillight, the exterior is completely redesigned to unlock maximum efficiency so you can get the most range out of every charge. With updated suspension, wheels and tires, your ride will be smoother and quieter.”
Tesla delivered 495,570 vehicles in the last quarter of 2024, setting a new record. Despite the new quarterly high, Tesla’s 2024 deliveries stood at 1,789,226, down 1% from the 1.81 million units delivered in 2023.
Tesla China’s sales increased by 18.9% in December, rising from 78,856 vehicles in November to 93,766 vehicles, according to China’s Passenger Car Association.
