Tesla’s Cybertruck has officially qualified for the $7,500 federal tax credit under the U.S. government’s clean vehicle program, according to updated information on the Internal Revenue Service’s website. The model’s starting price is now at $72,490 for customers qualifying.

Both the Dual Motor and the upcoming Single Motor configurations of the best selling EV pickup truck meet the eligibility requirements, which include a price cap of $80,000 for electric trucks.

Additionally, the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Cybertruck is also eligible for the incentive — even though Tesla has not confirmed the launch of the RWD variant. As of today, the Cybertruck is only available in the all-wheel-drive variant.

The updated tax credit rules apply to vehicles placed in service on or after January 1, 2025, and before January 1, 2026.

Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, said last Sunday that he has sold his Cybertruck. The post featured an image of the vehicle with the caption “Sold.” When asked why he sold the truck, Brownlee responded on X, stating, “TL;DR I like the Rivian better.”

Addressing a follow-up question on X about whether his preference stemmed from Rivian’s self-driving technology or safety features, Brownlee clarified: “We all know FSD [Full Self-Driving] is better than Rivian’s, but people on this site act like it’s the #1 buying factor for regular people when it’s not.”

Hours later, Elon Musk stopped following MKBHD on X.

Tesla is expected to release its fourth quarter production and delivery figures on Thursday (January 2) at 09:00 a.m. Eastern time.
