Tesla’s lead engineer has confirmed that Cybertruck owners will be able to buy extra protective retrofitted accessories options by the end of this year.

The company has recently shared its AI roadmap revealing that it expects to launch its Full Self Driving (FSD) software for the Cybertruck later this month.

On X, Tesla Cybertruck Lead Engineer Wes Morrill confirmed earlier this week that the company will launch Battery armor and Rock Sliders as part of a protective accessory line to ensure the vehicle’s safety in off-roading terrains.

“Battery armor and Rock sliders will be available as a retrofit option end of this year. Also if you plan to drive into fences probably best not to remove the front bumper and aluminum skid plate that come stock,” Morrill wrote.

The launch of these accessories will take place towards the end of the year, with little or no details on when they’ll become available to Cybertruck owners.

While Tesla prides itself in the durability and strength of the Cybertruck, some user tests have revealed various off-road weaknesses of the brand’s first pick-up-styled truck.

Former Top Gear co-presenter James May has published earlier this week a review video on the Cybertruck calling it “childish,” “quite humorous,” and “actually very ballsy.”
