Tesla to Integrate Grok in its Vehicles ‘Next Week,’ Musk Says

Tesla‘s chief executive Elon Musk said on Thursday that the Grok AI assistant will be available on Tesla vehicles “next week.”

xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company, launched on Wednesday Grok 4, the latest version of its flagship AI model.

At the end of the launch livestream, Sawyer Merritt, a Tesla content creator and shareholder with over 910,000 followers on X, posted that there was “no mention of Grok coming to Tesla vehicles.”

Musk replied to the post saying that “Grok is coming to Tesla vehicles very soon. Next week at the latest.”

Earlier this month, Tesla enthusiast ‘Greentheonly’ shared on X that a fully functional version of the Grok conversational AI assistant is already included in Tesla’s firmware. However, it has not yet been activated.

According to the post, Grok is present in vehicles running firmware version 2025.20 or newer and is simply waiting for Tesla to enable it.

To use Grok, vehicles will need either a Premium Connectivity subscription or a Wi-Fi connection, along with a user account for sign-in.

It is unclear whether users will be able to use the free version of the assistant or if they will have to sign up for a paid one — which can go from $30 to $300 depending on the features available.

However, Grok is expected to largely operate through voice commands, with the app being more focused on settings.

Additionally, Not a Tesla App reported that the company’s latest software update includes deep link support for xAI, which adds functionality for the Grok app, allowing users to log in and receive notifications from xAI and Grok.

Earlier this year, xAI merged with the also Elon Musk-led X Corp, responsible for the social media platform X, in which the flagship product Grok was integrated.

At the date of the Grok 4 launch event, Linda Yaccarino, chief executive for X, announced that she was leaving the company.

“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X,” she wrote on the platform.

The chief executive’s departure coincided with controversy surrounding Grok’s earliest version, which was answering user prompts on X with antisemitic and sexually charged remarks.

According to Musk, who said adjustments were being made to address the issue, Grok 3 was being “too compliant to user prompts,” and the posts were deleted from the platform.

It is also not clear whether the assistant being implemented on the EVs will be the Grok 3 or the new Grok 4.

According to xAI, Grok 4 is capable of “advanced reasoning,” “coding assistance” and fixing source code and “visual processing and image generation” — this last one only available in October.
