Despite announcing new incentives for the Swedish market last month, Tesla‘s registrations in the country continued to plunge in August.
The US EV maker sold 210 vehicles in Sweden last month, according to data published by Mobility Sweden on Monday.
The figures represent an 84.4% drop from the same period a year earlier, when overall sales — still driven by the previous version of the Model Y — totaled 1,348 units.
August registrations were, however, up 28.8% from July’s 163 units.
From January 1 to August 31, the EV maker sold 3,984 vehicles in the Scandinavian country — 65.9% below the 11,686 Tesla vehicles listed in the first eight months of 2024.
In mid-July, the company’s country chief Jens Stark announced that Tesla would be offering a trade-in bonus of SEK 40,000 ($4,200) for Swedes swapping their vehicle for a Tesla.
The offer applies to both the Model 3 and Model Y for orders placed by September 27 and delivered by September 30, a push aimed at lifting third-quarter delivery figures.
For customers buying a new Model 3 — in any variant — or Model Y Long Range All Wheel Drive (AWD), Tesla is offering a 0% variable financing rate is applicable. Customers must take delivery by the end of September.
The entry-level SUV’s prices in Sweden begin at 554,990 SEK ($58,100), while the Model 3 sedan is priced from 484,990 SEK ($50,800).
In August, Tesla sold 141 Model Ys and 67 Model 3s.
The portfolio in the country also includes the flagship Model S and Model X, however, it is only selling inventory units in the country — one unit of each model was sold last month.
In August, 23,362 vehicles were registered in Sweden, with the auto market recovering from slower registration figures in the first month of the first quarter.
New energy vehicles, including both fully electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrids, accounted for 15,463 units. Their market share rose by about 5 percentual points to 66.2%, compared to the same period a year ago.
Electric vehicles represented 7,287 units (31.2%), meaning that in each four vehicles sold in the country, one of them was fully electric. EV sales dropped slightly from the same period a year ago, when 7,477 out of 22,169 units were battery electric vehicles.

Geely-backed Polestar, headquartered in Gothenburg, was the best-selling pure EV maker, with 428 units sold — up from the 360 vehicles it registered in August 2024, but down from the 538 units from July.
Also from Geely, premium Zeekr brand listed 119 units, with its competitor Nio selling 29 electric vehicles in the Swedish market in the same period.
Chinese giant BYD sold 97 hybrid and fully electric vehicles in the country last month, while Guangzhou-based XPeng registered 49 vehicles.
