Tesla announced on Thursday that it will offer a 30-day free trial of its Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) feature in China to owners of vehicles delivered on or before January 27.
The feature is priced at 32,000 yuan in China, equivalent to approximately $4,390.
The EAP includes all features of Basic Autopilot, as well as Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Summon, and Enhanced Summon. The free trial will begin rolling out in batches starting Friday, January 24.
On its website, the company says that Basic Summon and Enhanced Summon functionalities “will be rolled out in the future.”
Tesla clarified that the offer is limited to vehicles equipped with hardware supporting EAP (HW2.0 or later) that have not been purchased with EAP or Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities.
For owners without an active EAP trial, the promotion will provide access to the feature for 30 days starting from activation. For those already using an EAP trial through programs such as trade-ins or rewards, the free trial period will be extended by an additional 30 days.
Last October, and as a year end incentive, Tesla announced that customers in China who purchase its vehicles on or before the end of 2024 would be allowed to transfer their original Full Self-Driving (FSD) package to a new vehicle at no additional cost.
Earlier this week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with China’s Vice President Han Zheng in Washington on the eve of Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Han told the chief executive of Tesla that he “welcomed Tesla and other U.S. companies to seize the opportunities and share in the benefits of China’s development, and contribute to the growth of China-U.S. economic and trade relations.”
In early December, when the Tesla China team achieved the second-strongest sales week with nearly 22,000 vehicles registered, Musk praised the result on X, writing, “Great work by Tesla China.”
Tesla unveiled earlier this month its highly awaited refreshed version of the Model Y SUV and began shipping last week the first units from its Giga Shanghai factory to showrooms across China.
Tesla China’s sales increased by 18.9% in December, rising from 78,856 vehicles in November to 93,766 vehicles, according to data from China’s Passenger Car Association.
