Tesla Starts Offering 30-Day FSD V14 Trial in North America

Tesla announced on Wednesday that it is launching a free 30-day trial of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software in North America amid the holiday travel period.

The company’s CFO Vaibhav Taneja said in the latest earnings call held in late October that “the total paid FSD customer base is still small, around 12% of our current fleet.”

The program begins just one week after the company rolled out the V14.2 update and about six weeks after the initial release of Version 14.

With FSD 14, Tesla has been releasing updates at the fastest pace yet — with new improvements each week.

CEO Elon Musk has said that, by Version 14.3, the car will “feel sentient.”

The free trial is part of Tesla‘s effort to encourage the use of the software.

It is available to owners of all Tesla models (S, 3, X, Y, and Cybertruck) with Hardware 4 who have not purchased or subscribed to the software.

Vehicles still on Hardware 3 do not support FSD 14. However, the company has stated that a Lite version of the latest software might launch next year.

FSD Deployment

Full Self-Driving is currently available in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico.

Outside of America, it has launched in New Zealand, Australia, China (although it’s only partially deployed there) and South Korea.

In the United States, drivers can purchase the software for $8,000 or subscribe to it for $99 per month.

Additionally, new Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck purchases currently have a standard ‘Luxe Package,’ which includes features such as the FSD software.

According to Tesla shareholder and X user Sawyer Merritt, there are an estimated 1.5 million owners with HW4 vehicles who have not purchased/subscribed to FSD.

Tesla is pushing forward into full autonomy, with Musk saying earlier this month that they’re just “a few months away from solving FSD Unsupervised.”

FSD Adoption

At the same time, he admitted that “probably the single biggest thing” right now is to “get people aware of FSD.”

Tesla revealed in September that about 50 to 60% of Model S and Model X users are purchasing FSD with their vehicles, instead of subscribing or not opting for it at all — which could also be driven by the introduction of the ‘Luxe Package.’

Meanwhile, the take rate for Model Y and Model 3 owners — which represent most of the fleet — is at 12 to 18%.

Earlier this week, Musk wrote on X that while Tesla has offered to license its FSD software to other automakers, they “don’t want it.”
