Tesla Set to Open Second Indian Store at New Delhi’s IGI Airport in August

Tesla is preparing to open its second showroom in India at the main international airport in the country’s capital, New Delhi.

After opening its first Indian store in Mumbai earlier this month, the Elon Musk-led company is preparing to launch a second location in August ahead of initial deliveries scheduled to begin later this quarter.

“Tesla’s second experience centre in India will open soon in Aerocity at IGI Airport,” the X user Ishanagarwal24 wrote on Tuesday.

The company officially launched in India earlier this month, with the opening of its showroom in the Bandra Kurla Complex business centre in Mumbai.

In Mumbai, the Model Y carries an “on-road” price of ₹61,07,190, while in Gurugram, Haryana, the cost rises to ₹66,76,831 ($77,800). Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) package is also listed on the site, priced at ₹6,00,000 ($7,000), although the company notes limitations related to India’s road conditions and traffic unpredictability.

India levies a 110% import duty on vehicles priced above $40,000, a barrier that previously delayed Tesla’s market entry.

The first vehicles to arrive are expected to be Model Y units exported from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai, Bloomberg reported earlier this year.

While India has offered reduced tariffs to manufacturers who produce locally, Tesla has no current plans to build vehicles in the country.

Electric vehicles accounted for 4.4% of total passenger car sales in June, according to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations of India (FADA), up from 2.5% in the same month last year. Hybrid vehicles represented 8.1% of total sales.

India’s Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, said on Monday that Starlink, founded by Elon Musk, is expected to provide services in India at a monthly cost of approximately ₹3,000 — equivalent to $35.
