Tesla China’s sales increased by 18.9% in December, rising from 78,856 vehicles in November to 93,766 vehicles, according to the Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on Friday.
The figures, which include both domestic sales and exports, represent the highest monthly total this year and the third-highest on record.
China’s Passenger Car Association said the automotive market continued in December with “the strong momentum observed since the third quarter”.
“The effects of policies encouraging vehicle scrapping and replacement remained evident, particularly the robust impact of trade-in programs, which significantly boosted market activity and drove the market heat further upward,” CPCA said on Friday.
With the 2025 Chinese Lunar New Year on January 29, the CPCA expects some manufacturers to shift sales, after meeting their 2024 adjustment targets, “to ensure a strong start” in the first month of the year.
BYD ranked first place with 509,440 new energy vehicles (NEV) sold and it was followed by the Geely Group with 111,206 and SAIC-GM-Wuling with 102,570 vehicles sold.

On Thursday, Tesla said it delivered 495,570 vehicles in the last quarter of 2024, setting a new record. Despite the new quarterly high, Tesla’s 2024 deliveries stood at 1,789,226, down 1% from the 1.81 million units delivered in 2023.

To surpass its 2023 figures, Tesla needed to achieve 515,000 deliveries in the fourth quarter. Wall Street consensus, based on estimates from 26 analysts, projected 506,763 vehicle deliveries.
Tesla had said in October that it expected to achieve “slight growth in vehicle deliveries in 2024,” and aims to deliver more than 500,000 vehicles in a single quarter for the first time.

“In the fourth quarter, we produced approximately 459,000 vehicles, delivered over 495,000 vehicles and deployed 11.0 GWh of energy storage products – a record for both deliveries and deployments,” Tesla said in a statement.
