Tesla sold 90,812 vehicles produced in China last month, according to data released on Friday by China’s Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
Earlier this week, the latest catalogue by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed that Tesla has filed for regulatory approval to sell a new, longer-ranged variant of its best-selling SUV — the Model Y+.
Although the range figures were not disclosed in the filing, the variant is expected to have over 800km of range based on China’s CLTC cycle — as seen in the Model 3+ variant recently launched.
September figures represent a 2.8% increase from the 88,321 units produced and registered a year ago.
The numbers include both vehicles sold in China and vehicles exported by the company’s GigaShanghai plant.
Tesla China’s wholesales in September represent an increase of 9.2% compared to August, when the company had sold 83,192 vehicles produced in the country.
This marks a return to growth after two months of sales below the same period a year ago.
The figures were prompted by the three-row Model Y L, as well as the Model 3 with the longest range yet — at 830 km (515 miles).
In August, Tesla registered 57,152 vehicles in China, while the remaining 26,040 were sold in other countries supplied by the factory.
As of press time, industry data regarding sales of China-produced vehicles inside and outside of the country has not been yet revealed.
However, and according to weekly registration data shared on Chinese social media, the company has registered 66,300 electric vehicles between September 1 and 28.
Tesla China’s sales, including exports, totaled 606,364 vehicles in the first nine months of 2025. The numbers represent a 10.3% drop year over year.
Last week, Tesla announced a new round of incentives for the Chinese market, as the last quarter of the year begins.
The discounts include 0% APR in several model iterations, paint gifts and free Full-Self Driving (FSD) transfer for customers purchasing a new Tesla vehicle.
These discounts are available until the end of October.
BYD, which produces both hybrid and fully electric vehicles, sold a total of 393,060 vehicles across China and international markets in September.
Most of its overseas sales are still manufactured in China, despite is manufacturing expansion in both Europe and South America.
Geely, which owns international brands such as Volvo and Polestar, produced 165,201 vehicles in China.
