About an hour after Tesla said on Weibo on Monday that its new six-seat SUV, the Model Y L, is “coming soon,” leaked images of the interior began circulating online, showing a number of changes from the recently refreshed Model Y.
According to the teaser video released by Tesla and photos shared on Chinese social media, the Model Y L introduces a black headliner — a first for the Model Y — along with redesigned front seats that are more comfortable and include adjustable headrests.
The second row adopts a six-seat layout with captain’s chairs equipped with powered armrests, while the third row gains armrests and cup holders.
Other visible changes include additional leg-rest support for the front seats, four extra air vents mounted on the pillars — two for the second row and two for the third — and power-folding capability for both the second- and third-row seats.
A larger rear spoiler is also part of the redesign, as pointed out by Tesla’s shareholder and enthusiast Sawyer Merritt on X.
The Model Y L will initially be offered in China with other markets expected to follow. However, Tesla has not yet confirmed any other country for the six seat SUV.
The model has recently been spotted undergoing testing at Germany’s Nürburgring track, suggesting that a European can follow.
The leaked images come days after several Model Y L vehicles were seen being transported on Chinese roads, adding to speculation about an imminent debut.
Tesla reinforced that view on Monday with the release of its latest teaser video on Weibo, writing: “The Model Y L is about to debut, stay tuned.”
The company first hinted at the new variant in mid-July, when it posted an earlier teaser on Weibo saying the launch was planned for the autumn.
Around the same time, a catalogue published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology disclosed technical details, including a dual-motor configuration with peak power outputs of 142 kW for the front motor and 198 kW for the rear.
