Tesla released an iOS app for its robotaxi service on Apple’s App Store on Wednesday, opening downloads to all users.
Access to the service remains restricted through a waitlist, with the company saying it will expand availability “soon.”
Last month, Tesla‘s CEO Elon Musk said the robotaxi service will open to the general public in Austin in September, as the company awaits regulatory approval to operate the system in additional states.
“Robotaxi app now available to all. Download to join waitlist – expanding access soon,” Tesla’s dedicated Robotaxi account on X wrote on Wednesday. The company added in a separate post that an Android version is “coming in the future.”
The public rollout follows an app update on Tuesday that introduced two new features: riders can now add a stop at the end of a trip, and submit feedback at any time through the app’s support screen.
Tesla has also been gradually expanding its robotaxi operations. Earlier this week, the company began operating rides on Austin freeways, with safety operators seated behind the wheel rather than in the passenger seat.
“Safety monitors are only in the driver’s seat for trips that involve highway driving, as a self-imposed cautious first step toward expanding to highways,” the Robotaxi account said in a post late Wednesday. A video shared on Tuesday showed similar arrangements in the Bay Area, where operators are also seated in the driver’s seat.
Last week, Tesla expanded the geofenced service area in Austin from 91 to 173 square miles and said it had increased the fleet size by 50%.
The company first launched the ride-hailing service in Austin in late June, using a fleet of modified Model Ys equipped with a new, fully autonomous-grade version of Full Self-Driving (FSD).
The service was later extended to the Bay Area, where rides are also conducted with a safety operator in the driver’s seat.
Last month, Tesla was spotted testing its Robotaxi in Miami, Florida, weeks after Elon Musk confirmed that the city is on the company’s expansion plans.
