Speaking virtually at the “X Takeover” event held on Sunday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk hinted that the upcoming Roadster model will be able to fly.
Musk added that a demo will take place “sometime next year” adding that it “will be mind-blowing”.
Mentioning his friend Peter Thiel — who is the co-founder of Palantir and PayPal — Musk said that Thiel often asks him why flying cars are not yet a reality, to which he responds, “Wait for it. It’s coming.”
Musk noted that while flying cars might not significantly change the world, they would still be an impressive innovation. He said, “Sometimes you just got to have things that are just cool.”
Tesla CEO added that the Roadster, will combine Tesla’s electric vehicle engineering with SpaceX’s rocket technology.

Answering to the host who teased, “I heard it can fly a little,” Musk confirmed by saying, “Yeah”.
“And that’s a joint Tesla SpaceX effort. So it’s kind of combining rocket engineering with Tesla EV engineering to make something really special,” he stated.

Last week, Tesla reported its second-quarter earnings results earlier, and as expected, CEO Elon Musk updated owners, enthusiasts, and shareholders on multiple topics, including the Robotaxi.
Initially scheduled for August 8 (8/8), Musk announced during the earnings conference call that the event will now take place on October 10 (10/10). He explained that the additional two months will allow the company “to show off a few other things.”
“I requested what I think is an important design change to the front, and the extra time allows us to show off a few other things,” Musk said.
