Tesla registered 16,700 insurance registrations in China for the week of November 18-24, according to data shared on Tuesday by Beijing-based carmaker Li Auto. The figures represent a slight decline from the 17,100 registrations recorded the previous week but reflect strong overall performance for the quarter, as Tesla targets a new record of delivering over half a million vehicles during this period.

The week’s registrations included over 6,700 Model 3 sedans, down from 7,200 in the prior week. The model’s main direct competitor, Xiaomi, saw its debut electric vehicle, the SU7, registering 4,600 units, down week over week from 5,700.

Despite the slight decline, Tesla’s quarterly performance remains robust, with insurance registrations up 2.4% quarter-over-quarter and 15.6% year-over-year. Year-to-date registrations are 7.1% higher than the same period last year, making this the highest eighth-week performance for any quarter in China.

Tesla announced on Monday an extension of its five-year, 0% interest financing offer for the Model 3 sedan and Model Y models. Initially introduced in April as a limited-time promotion, the program has been extended multiple times.

Tesla began delivering the Model Y in China in January 2021 and is now preparing to launch an updated version of the crossover. Internally codenamed “Juniper,” the refreshed 2025 Model Y is expected to debut in the first quarter of next year with design and performance enhancements aimed at maintaining Tesla’s competitive edge in the market.

As reported earlier today, several revamped Tesla Model 3 vehicles, retrofitted for police use, were spotted being transported in France on Monday, suggesting that French law enforcement is expanding its electric vehicle fleet.
