Tesla has officially expanded to Colombia, with the country becoming its sixth American market, the second in South America.
Orders have opened in the country on Wednesday, with the delivery waiting time currently set for February-March 2026.
The company had previously teased its launch in the country with a six-second video on X earlier this month.
The video confirmed the expansion, after several job listings based in Bogotá and MedellÃn appeared on its LinkedIn page in September, as reported by EV.
Starting November 25 (next Tuesday), customers will be able to take a demo drive in a Tesla on the streets of the two cities.
Additionally, and according to a map on the company’s website, a Supercharger is under construction in Medellin.
Lineup
Tesla entered Colombia with its two best-selling models, the Model Y and Model 3.
However, despite the recent launch of the Standard versions for both models in the United States, the versions available in the South American market are still the previous ones.
Customers can order the Model 3 in Rear-Wheel Drive, All-Wheel Drive, or Performance trims. Prices start at 109,990,000 Colombian pesos (about $29,400).
The Model Y is offered in RWD and AWD versions, starting at 119,990,000 Colombian pesos (around $32,060).
In the US and Europe, where the Model Y Standard has been introduced, these now correspond to the Premium iterations.
EV Adoption in Colombia
Data from ANDEMOS (Asociación Nacional De Movilidad Sostenible) shows that sales of electrified vehicles — including both hybrid and fully electric models — have doubled those of diesel cars in the first half of the year.
Of the total 33,921 units sold between January and June, 7,999 were fully electric vehicles, representing a threefold surge compared to the same period a year before.
By then, the top-selling brands in the segment were Toyota, BYD, Suzuki and Mazda — all of which produce vehicles of both powertrains.
Data from the third quarter is not yet available.
Presence in America
In the American continent, Tesla is also available in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Chile. Tesla is only present in other countries through customer-imported units.
The Elon Musk-led company entered Chile early last year, with its first store opening in the capital, Santiago. There, Tesla also sells both its Model 3 and Model Y.
The company’s sedan is priced from 39,900,000 Chilean pesos, equivalent to $42,900, while the best-selling SUV starts from 43,900,000 pesos (about $47,100).
For comparison, in Mexico the Model 3’s prices begin at 799,000 Mexican pesos ($43,500) and the Model Y is priced from 859,000 pesos ($46,760).
In the US, the Tesla Model 3 is priced from $34,990, while the Model Y starts at $39,990.
