Tesla‘s registrations in Norway soared 53.8% year over year to 5,646 electric vehicles last month, data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV) showed on Tuesday.
Compared with the 2,600 vehicles sold in May, June figures doubled setting the best month of the year for the brand in the Nordic market.
The figures showed it was Tesla‘s second best month since it entered Norway in 2019 and the strongest one since March 2023, when it sold 7,915 units.
In the first half of the year, Tesla sales in Norway totaled 13,039 units, a rise of 24.2% from the 10,498 units recorded in the same period a year ago.
The Model Y accounted for 5,004 of the total vehicles registered last month, which represented 88.6% of the sales.
The refreshed version, unveiled late last year, started being delivered in Norway in March. Since then, monthly registrations of the vehicle doubled sequentially from April to June.
Tesla‘s Model Y is priced from 476,996 NOK ($47,200), while the Model 3 sedan, which represented 639 of the vehicles sold, has prices starting at 354,919 NOK ($35,100).
According to the brand’s website, Norwegian customers can purchase the revamped Model Y with a 0% interest rate. A 0.99% rate is applied for Model 3 buyers.
Both offers have no expiration date, according to the website.
The brand’s lineup in Norway includes the Model S and Model X, which are only available through inventory units.
Tesla announced the refreshed versions of its flagship models in June. Tesla was spotted Model S in the Nürburgring track in May, however, there is no timeline set for the European launch of the models.
For customers purchasing the previous iteration, Tesla is offering free Supercharging and Premium Connectivity.
As the OFV only discloses the top 20 vehicles sold, it does not show Model X and Model S registrations.
According to data from Elbilstatistikk, Tesla sold one Model X and three Model S units in June.
Norway is the leading country in the world when it comes to EV adoption. In June, battery electric vehicles accounted for 96.9% of new car sales with Tesla securing a 31.7% market share of that segment.
In May, fully electric vehicles had a market share of 80.7%.
The Model Y was the best-selling model in the country for the fourth consecutive month.
It was followed by Toyota’s BZ4X and Volkswagen‘s ID.4, which represented 825 and 714 units, respectively.
Toyota’s BZ4X SUV is currently priced from 426,800 NOK, equivalent to $42,250 — about 50,000 NOK below Tesla‘s Model Y. Volkswagen‘s ID.4 SUV is priced from 437,860 NOK ($43,350).
The German brand was the best-selling brand in Norway up until May. In June, Tesla surpassed the legacy automaker, as the latter registered 1,956 vehicles.
Both in June and year to date, the U.S. brand’s figures are about 3,000 units above Volkswagen.
In the top 10 best-selling models, the brand has two more models — the ID.7 and ID.3. Volkswagen-backed Skoda’s Enyaq ranked seventh and Tesla‘s Model 3 ranked ninth.
China’s giant BYD ranked tenth, having sold 754 vehicles in the country last month, from which 604 were Sealion 7 SUVs.
The fully electric model was launched in late 2024 in the country and is priced from 469,900 NOK ($46,500).
