Tesla July Sales Climb in Norway and Spain, Drop in France, Denmark and Sweden

Tesla vehicle registrations declined in several key European markets in July, despite a sales increase in Spain and in Norway, according to national and industry data released on early Friday.

In Denmark, registrations fell 52% year on year to 336 units, with Model Y deliveries specifically down 49%.

The drop comes despite Elon Musk’s recent claim that the refreshed Model Y became the best-selling vehicle in June in markets including Turkey, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria.

Sales in Sweden saw an even steeper decline. Data published on Friday by industry group Mobility Sweden showed that Tesla registrations fell 85.8% year on year to just 163 vehicles.

During the company’s second-quarter earnings call in late July, Musk said European sales would improve “significantly” once Tesla is able to offer customers the same Full Self-Driving (FSD) experience available in the US.

“This is a very important point to convey. We have been working with the Netherlands, and I think we are close to getting approval there,” he added.

In France, Tesla registrations fell 27% year on year in July to 1,307 units.

The company has faced mounting criticism in the country, where ten Tesla owners filed a lawsuit in June alleging that Musk’s political activity had damaged the brand.

The plaintiffs said the CEO had turned the vehicles into “far-right totems”, according to a previous Financial Times report.

Spain and Norway were a rare bright spot.

In Norway, registrations rose 83.4% to 838 vehicles bringing year to date sales to 13,877 units.

Last month, when the Norwegian federation reported that 97% of all cars sold in June were fully electric, Musk wrote on X: “As goes Norway, so goes the rest of the world. Combustion engine cars will be like the steam engine – quaint, but primitive.”

Tesla’s vehicle registrations in Spain rose 27% year on year in July to 702 units. For the first seven months of 2025, sales in the country were up 1.1% compared with the same period in 2024.

Registration figures for Germany, the UK and several other major European markets have not yet been released.
