Tesla registered 21,900 vehicles in China between December 2 and 8, its third-highest weekly figure in the past three years. Of these, 16,760 were Model Y vehicles.

Despite the typically lower volumes seen in the first week of each month, Tesla’s weekly registrations rose 17.7% to 21,900 vehicles, compared to 18,600 in the previous week.

Year-to-date, Tesla has registered 601,687 vehicles in China, an increase of 8.1% compared to the same period in 2023. CEO Elon Musk commented on the results early Tuesday on X, stating, “Great work by Tesla China.”

In November, Tesla’s sales in China increased by 15.49% from the previous month to 78,856 units, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). The Model Y ranked as the second-best-selling electric vehicle in China during the month, with the Model 3 in fourth place.

Globally, Tesla has stated it “expects to achieve slight growth in vehicle deliveries in 2024,” with plans to deliver more than 500,000 vehicles in a single quarter for the first time.

In October, CEO Elon Musk stated that Tesla’s sales were “actually doing great,” reaching “all-time highs.”

On the first day of December, Tesla extended its five-year, 0% interest loan offer in China for the Model 3 and Model Y until the end of the year. A week earlier, Tesla announced a 10,000 yuan ($1,380) discount on the Model Y, which can be combined with the 0% interest financing offer.

BYD’s registrations declined 13% week over week to 85,000 plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles while the Beijing-based Li Auto ranked fourth with 12,600 vehicles — up 6% from the last week of November. The Stellantis-backed brand Leapmotor registered 8,500 vehicles while GAC’s brand Aion recorded 6,900 units.
