Tesla Extends European FSD Test Rides to March 2026 on High Demand

Tesla has extended the availability of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) test rides in several European cities, nearly a week after the program was first introduced.

The test rides, originally scheduled to run until the year end, have been extended until the March 31 due to strong customer interest.

Tesla is still awaiting regulatory approval for the software in the region, and it expects the Netherlands to become the first country to allow the deployment of the software.

New bookings for the following three months have been included in the company’s website, and are available for customers in Italy, France, and Germany.

The extension comes just a day after Tesla‘s EU Policy and Business Development Manager Ivan Komušanac wrote on LinkedIn told customers “who did not manage to book a slot in December” to “stay tuned as we are wrapping some Christmas presents.”

Self-Driving in Italy

On Wednesday, Tesla hosted Roberto Gualtieri, the Mayor of Rome, and Mobility Councillor Eugenio Patanè, in their first FSD road demo.

The event marked the first time an Italian mayor tested the advanced driver-assistance system in person in Rome’s urban streets.

Under the Decreto Ministeriale numero 70 del 28/2/2018, testing of automated vehicles in cities require the authorization from the national authority, namely the Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti (MIT).

However, a nulla osta clearance under the same degree must be given by the road’s managing authority, which could be the city’s mayor or other municipal entity responsible for traffic management.

Gualtieri’s openness to experience Tesla‘s self-driving software signals a potential easing of the expansion of such systems on Rome’s roads.

In Italy, customers can currently book test rides of the FSD in the city of Milano, according to the company’s website. With the extension, more cities are likely to be added.

Earlier this year, Tesla shared videos of the software being tested in Rome, near the Colosseum. The company has also tested the system in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, and London, among others.

Approval in the Netherlands

Tesla recently announced that, according to the Dutch national vehicle authority, the FSD would be approved in the Netherlands early next year.

“RDW has committed to granting Netherlands National approval in February 2026,” the company wrote on X.

However, a few days later, the RWD issued a statement contradicting the claim.

According to the regulator, approval is not granted — instead, what the two entities have agreed on is that they will meet in February so Tesla can demonstrate if the system’s capabilities meet the requirements.

FSD Expansion

Tesla‘s FSD is currently fully available for drivers in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea (limited to Model S and X).

Musk revealed in the Annual Shareholder Meeting that regulators are leaning to “fully” approve it in China in the first quarter of 2026.

To encourage adoption of the software, the company has introduced a 30-day FSD trial in North America.

In the latest earnings call, Tesla revealed that, as of September, the total paid FSD customer base was around 12% of the fleet.

Earlier this week, a Tesla owner in the US reported driving 1,136.3 miles using FSD Version 14.2 without requiring a single intervention, marking the longest verified distance achieved on the system without human override.
