Tesla Confirms Expansion to Colombia, the 6th American Market

Tesla confirmed it is expanding to Colombia, after the company posted several job openings for the South American country in September.

The Elon Musk-led firm published a six-second video on X on Tuesday, featuring an animation centered on the map of Colombia.

As reported by EV in September, Tesla had opened several job listings based in Bogotá and Medellín.

The company was looking for Sales, Service, and Delivery Advisors, as well as an Associate Sales Manager. In addition, Tesla was also hiring Service Technicians.

As of Wednesday, the company’s LinkedIn page only lists three sales-focused roles.

Presence in America

In the American continent, Tesla is also available in Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.

Colombia is the brand’s second South American market. Besides Chile, Tesla is only present in other countries through customer-imported units.

The expansion follows its entry into Chile early last year, with its first store opening in the capital, Santiago. There, Tesla sells both its Model 3 and Model Y.

The company’s sedan is priced from 39,900,000 Chilean pesos, equivalent to $41,700, while the best-selling SUV starts from 43,900,000 pesos (about $45,950).

For comparison, in Mexico the Model 3’s prices begin at 799,000 Mexican pesos ($43,550) and the Model Y is priced from 859,000 pesos ($46,850).

In the US, the Tesla Model 3 is priced from $34,990, while the Model Y starts at $39,990.

New Energy Vehicles in Colombia

Data from ANDEMOS (Asociación Nacional De Movilidad Sostenible) shows that sales of electrified vehicles — including both hybrid and fully electric models — have doubled those of diesel cars in the first half of the year.

By then, the top-selling brands in the segment were Toyota, BYD, Suzuki and Mazda — all of which produce vehicles of both powertrains.

Of the total 33,921 units sold between January and June, 7,999 were fully electric vehicles, representing a threefold surge compared to the same period a year before.
