Tesla’s registrations in China fell to 6,220 vehicles between February 3 and 9, according to data shared by the Beijing-based carmaker Li Auto on Tuesday.

In the previous two weeks combined, which were also affected by the Chinese New Year holiday, Tesla recorded 13,400 vehicles.

Registration numbers stayed low across most manufacturers due to ongoing disruptions from the Chinese New Year holiday, which took place from January 28 to February 4.

Last week’s figures included 3,860 units of the ‘old’ Model Y and 2,360 Model 3 sedans.

In June last year, the company started China deliveries of its Model 3 Performance while the revamped Model 3 was launched in late 2023. Tesla’s result between February 5 and 9 marked the strongest week of the year for the fully electric sedan.

As Tesla prepares to start deliveries in China (and globally) of the refreshed Model Y, the company has recently removed the ‘old’ version from its Chinese website. The model’s registrations are expected to remain low over the next few weeks, until the Elon Musk led company started delivering the ‘Launch Series’ edition of the revamped SUV.

In January, and according to China Passenger Car Association data, Tesla sold 33,703 vehicles in China and exported 29,535 vehicles from its most productive Gigafactory.

Preliminary data from CPCA released last week had showed that the company sold 63,238 vehicles in January, including domestic sales and exports.

The figure marks an 11.5% decline from 71,447 units in January 2023 and a 32.6% drop from 93,766 units in December.

Overall, the CPCA estimated that new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturers selling more than 10,000 units per month collectively recorded 856,000 sales in January. Total NEV wholesale sales in China for the month are projected to reach 900,000 units, the association said.
