Tesla Captures More Than Half of Norway’s EV Market in First Two Weeks of March

Tesla vehicles accounted for more than half of all EV sales in Norway so far this month, according to data from the EV registration tracking platform Elbilstatistikk.

The figures were first reported by Roland Pircher on X, who tracks Tesla registration data across European markets.

Pircher reported that Tesla held a market share of 53.4% at the end of the first of March and 52% as of early Monday.

Tesla held a 16.6% market share in Norway in February, according to official data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV).

If the sales pace from early March holds through the rest of the month, sales figures could more than triple by month-end.

The strong numbers come amid Tesla‘s typical end-of-quarter push to boost deliveries.

Additionally, according to Pircher, the company began registering China-manufactured Model Ys for the quarter on February 24.

Norway is not a European Union member, meaning it does not apply the bloc’s tariffs on Chinese EV imports, imposed in October 2024.

This allows Tesla to source vehicles from both its European factory in Germany — where the company produces the best-selling Model Y — and from the GigaShanghai — where both the Model 3 and Model Y are manufactured.

Sales Figures

Data published by EV registration tracking platform Elbilstatistikk shows the company registered 3,515 vehicles in the country as of Monday morning (March 16), out of 6,422 total electric vehicle sales across all brands.

While the figures cover only battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations, they represent the vast majority of the Norwegian auto market, where nearly all new car sales are fully electric.

BEVs accounted for 98.0% of total vehicle sales in Norway in February, with 7,272 units sold overall — a recovery from a sharp decline in January.

The slump at the start of the year had been widely anticipated, as Norway removed EV incentives after the powertrain represented 95% of all new car sales in 2025.

Tesla sold 1,210 vehicles in Norway in February, reclaiming its position as the country’s best-selling brand.

The figure marks a 75.6% increase from the 689 units registered in the same month a year earlier, and a sharp rebound from the 83 vehicles sold in January.

January’s drop was particularly notable given Tesla‘s strong 2025 performance in Norway.

The company set a full-year record in 2025 with 34,285 vehicles sold and captured 19.1% of the market.

Best-selling Models

Tesla‘s Model Y also reclaimed its position as Norway’s best-selling vehicle, accounting for 88.7% of the brand’s February registrations at around 1,070 units.

In the first two weeks of March alone, registrations of the model have already tripled that figure, extending its lead at the top of the overall market.

The company’s Model 3 sedan follows with 376 registrations so far this month, according to Elbilstatistikk.

February’s second- and third-best sellers — the Toyota bZ4X and Urban Cruiser — each moved fewer than half the units of the Model Y that month.

As of Monday, their March tallies stand at roughly a third of Model 3 registrations, for comparison.

Tesla introduced the refreshed Model Y in Europe a year ago.

In October, it launched a more affordable, Standard version — since then renamed to Rear-Wheel Drive — priced from NOK 389,990 ($40,100).

The Model 3 Standard also debuted in European markets late last year, reducing the sedan’s entry-level price to NOK 299,990 ($30,900).

The refreshed Model S and Model X are also available in the market, however, only through inventory as Tesla prepares to discontinue both models.

The company announced in January that it will be ending production of its flagship models as it transitions towards autonomy-related projects.

According to the registration tracking platform, one Model S was sold in March so far.

Customers are currently being offered 0% APR if purchasing any of the Premium Model Y variants, with a 2.74% effective interest rate, and a 1.99% APR if opting for any trim of the Model 3 sedan.

Both Model 3 Premium and Performance trims and all variants of the Model Y are eligible for a ‘Tesla Bonus’ of NOK 50,000 ($5,200).

The promotions run until March 31.
